If you have not incorporated these techniques into your goaltending repetoir then your save selections are incomplete. These are valid and often used techniques at all levels of professional hockey. They are taught by professional instructors and coaches to pros, and amateurs like you. The techniques will not die and will continue to be utilized as the goaltending position, and its techniques, continues to evolve.

To take the color commentary of a tv announcer and analyst without a grain of salt is like buying a pig in a poke. In other words you don't know what you are getting because they usually are only talking to fill space and rarely are their comments timely or worthy of consideration to the competing athlete.

There are distinct game situations when pad stacks and diving poke checks are the appropriate save selection. Perhaps you have never encountered the high level of play that demands these responses. However, I assure you, that they will be utilized long after you have hung up your skates.
