There's a time and place for it.... it can and should be used in certain situations, IF you know how to do it and how to recover from it.

Saying that it doesn't work and is outdated is akin to saying "butterfly saves" don't work so you don't do them. You don't do THAT on every save either.
Same applies for a diving poke check. Remember the video recently of the European goalie that dove out on the guy in a shootout who had his head down? Perfect example... can't shoot when you don't have the puck.
