I would venture to guess that he recovers from his butterfly by more or less rolling over the front of his skates and this causes the toes to wear on the concrete. He already said that he doesn't use any boot straps or toe ties, maybe if he were to use them, it might force his feet to stay in their proper position and he could get up with the inner sides of his feet instead of the fronts of them.

That would seem like the logical explaination. Like I also said, I'm new to goaltending and learn new things every time I play. I don't have any coaching or classes/camps in San Diego so I've been trying to figure out most of it by myself. Once this cowling issue is resolved, I vow to get up the correct way. This is where some good coaching would help. Basically I'm just a guy who went out and bought all the equipment and started playing (or is it guessing?). But I'm having a blast and love every minute of it. We all had to start somewhere, eh? I love this website and will use it as a learning tool.
