Detroit/Dallas West. Conf. Finals Thread
As a lifelong Red Wings fan I have to admit I have been pleased so far with Detroit's performance in the playoffs. I am a pessimist when it comes to the Wings and the playoffs. I fully expect the Wings to take 1,000 shots on goal, give up only one and lose 1-0. I am impressed by the balanced scoring, and Bab**** made the right move by putting Ozzie in net.
The offense is clicking right now with Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, and Holmstrom leading the charge. Kronwall has been a pleasant surprise in that he has actually managed to play more than 4 minutes without breaking something (maybe he's related to Forsberg??). They shoot, shoot and shoot. They crash the net as well as anyone and no other team left standing can touch the offensive production of their d-men.
But.....History tells us that a hot goalie can take them out (Giggy, Kipper, Roloson, etc.). They've been fairly healthy for the first two rounds, let's see what happens when a key player goes down.
Fact - The Western Conference Championship goes through Hockeytown. Since winning the Cup in 2002, the last four Western Conference Champs have beaten Detroit on their way to the Cup Finals (Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Anaheim).
Turco has always struggled against Detroit, god knows how many times Versus and NBC will talk about his lifetime record being something awful like 1-10 or something like that, but this is the PLAYOFFS!!! Throw everything else out the window. He is playing so calm and confident. I can see it coming now - Detroit takes 22 shots with 0 goals, Dallas comes down on a 3-on-2 or something and scores. Turco is the difference.
I liked the Stars since the playoffs started and am picking Stars in 5, maybe 6 with all the games decided by 1 goal (not counting empty netters)
