I routinely use myself and my stick to block space in a situation like that. There was no reason to be flying in to hit someone behind the net when the game ends, and Ozzie took away the direct angle through the edge of the crease with his butt end. If you don't want to get hit with the butt end, don't go through the crease at the buzzer trying to make a cheap, late hit.
IMO, Ozzie's move with the stick was no different than when a goalie raises the stick parallel to the ice when someone is coming at them and they have the puck. It makes someone think twice before coming in hard.
That said, what a freaking puss-ass dive. I've gotten KO'd by a golden glove boxer in the ring before and got up quicker. Granted, I fell back down........
