We have had a vew-do balance board around for 10 years. Kids used it for helping them get better at skateboarding and working their balance for hockey.
We also have two wobble boards which they used so they could separate their feet. My son's were able to pick up surfing and snowboarding on their first attempt and I believe that it is because of the time they spent on the balance board. My youngest son began using the balance board when he was 8 to help him in goaltending. He would balance on the board and I would toss tennis balls to him which he had to redirect with his palms. It looked like it helped him to develop balance, recovery, and reflexes. The boys got into doing tricks on the board and they were able to jump in the air and do a 360 turn landing the board back on the roller, later years a 540. My goalie son developed this into a trick where he would celibrate a win by jumping in the air for a 360 spin. I believe it really helped their skating. It takes a lot of athletic balance to perform squats or toe raises on the balance board. My suggestion for a goalie using the balance board solo is to balance on it while bouncing tennis or raquet balls off of a nearby wall.
