What the hell do I tell my team? I've let in a few bad goals, but it seems like my team gives up in the 3rd period no matter what the score. My team takes WAY TOO MANY penalty shots, and I stop most of those, but holy crap, we're not winning, and even when I make a really good save, I don't even get a "good save" from my team. I know goalies should never blame anything on their team, but my stats are really suffering as my team never skates back at all on defense.

What do I do?
I hear ya buddy, i was in the same boat pretty much here in Rochester, NY too.
My team is atrocious, we are a group of the best kids from our varsity team, but we constantly get scraped by other teams. We miss chances left and right, and if I let in a single bad goal, I never hear the end of it. Some of the scores of the past games have been 12-4, 9-1, 9-4 and 13-6. The scores you see here resemble a team that does not backcheck until they absolutely have to (usually after the first rebound comes back to hit me on a 2-0 or breakaway), and miss scoring chances like it was their jobs. It feels like you just cannot win no matter what you do. Until I took some of the best advice from one of my coaches a little while ago (Yona ) "Focus on your job. Break it down into simple movements and do not get caught up in the hype. The puck is your job so try your best to make the saves that should be made- but do not wreck your confidence. Keep things in perspective, would you be expected to stop a 2-0 9 times out of 10 in an actual game?"
With that being said, there are only two things a shooter can do with the puck, pass it or shoot it. Treat either like a shot and do your best to stay in front of it, that is the only way us small goalies (im only 5'9, and am the smallest goalie in my leauge) are able to make odd man rush saves, we cannot rely on our shear size, positioning is key. If your team gives you problems, just tell them they are right and pretty much play introvert. Focus on your game and show them that your here to play and do your job, it will force them to do theirs.

best of luck
