Thought I'd chime in on my current experience and opinions with P90X.
I ordered this having nothing to do with improving my goaltending skills. I got hooked by the "get ripped in 90 day" tagline and the success stories. My comments below are based on what I am looking to get out of the program.
After the first workout I put it back in the box and ordered Power 90 (P90) which was Tony's first video series with Beachbody. It was more than 5 years since I've seen the inside of a gym and starting slow was the best move for me. In my opinion, to get the max results you should be in OK shape or already working out before doing this.
If your main goal is to loose weight, and get in better shape then you are then you might not need to haze yourself with this program. Power 90 is more for basic conditioning and weight loss and the diets behind the two are different. If you're looking for that ripped look, in my opinion the diet is equally if not more important (unless you have an insane metabolism) than the workouts.
If you follow the true success stories, and those who win the monthly contests they all followed the diet guidelines pretty strictly. How can you tell? Most people on the bulletin boards post the daily eating accountability. To be honest the diet is no real secret and Mont posted some nutritional info a while back which has a lot of the same theme as Beachbody's nutritional guidelines.
I am on the message boards there and see people doing the program, not getting great results fast, and getting frustrated. I think they should be doing a different program first. It's easy to be impatient and want the quick 90 days, but to each their own.
If you want to stay true to the program it does take a significant time and committment. I usuallly workout around 6:00am, and I've been experimenting with breaking up the Yoga workout into two parts. Those that are familiar with the routine know you could probably stop about 50 minutes into it before the balance and yoga belly section - However the end of the Yoga video does a lot of streching that's probably good for goalies. I also usually do Ab Ripper X at night before I go to bed.
Anyway - I am getting in great shape and am now looking better than I ever had. I can't wait for my 90s to see all my progress.
By the way I followed Power 90 for 60 days and then switced over to P90X. Tomorrow I finish week 2 of P90X.
Stat Day 1 P90 Day 60P90/Day 1 P90X
Weight 184 168
Pant size 34" 30/31
Body fat 22% 12%
Hope you don't mind the long post.
