I have to admit he did a good job doing it, but he had no dept and it shows when he went with the WWE. Austin was a tremendous wrestler, one of the best. His character was demanding more brawling, but when wrestling was necessary, he did a GREAT job.

Well, Goldberg played the character pretty well, he was marketed really well too, the only good marketing WCW did (for many reasons, even if they were really popular, the NWO was a failure). That worked and Goldberg made millions out of it. Great gimmick, great marketing, great run but since the wrestler has no wrestling dept, once the hype is gone, you're out. That was the difference between Goldberg and Austin, and even The Rock. The Rock and Austin were great wrestlers, so when the hype was gone, they were able to back it up with in-ring talent to stay on top forever.

Does it answer your question?
Did you ever see that match with Goldberg vs. Regal? Regal was supposed to let Goldberg get the squash, but Regal started shoot wrestling him...it was funny.
