Lost 4-3 against an experienced deck team, and no one on my team has ever played prior. My gear is way too bulky for my style; i butterfly and such and play the ball a lot (I ran out and deked two guys, but the third one got me LOL). I am looking for smaller pads now. Important:
Stay as cool as possible. I had a game last night and the rink was a sweltering mess. I have two C/A's, one bulky one for roller and a thinner one for dek. You might want to look into something like that to stay cool.
