I think you are exactly right in regards to many of these programs. They foster resentment on all sides. A minority person might resent that they were given an unfair leg up and have to deal with people wondering if they "made the grade" because they are not a white male, and the white male resents that in this instance they can be put at an unfair advantage.

It seems to me to be a flawed system that was created with the best of intentions, but won't necessarily solve much. The problems run deeper. Many people who study these things now refer to "being racist" not as being prejudice, but as benefitting, intentionally or un-intentionally, from a system of unfair advantages and disadvantages.

And I understand where you are coming from with the college tuition stuff. I was lucky enough to get some academic scholorships to get me through tuition for ahwile, but I was basically "cut off" after my first semester. Having to work full time sucks when all your friends are sucking at the government FASFA teet and partying all the time. Now I'm trying to get some private loans because I am still ineligbile for federal aid.
