People who know how hockey-crazy my family is are always amazed to learn that we've never gone to Detroit for a Red Wings game. They don't understand how outrageous the pricing is, particularly compared to what we're used to paying for our local minor league team.

I just can't justify spending the equivalent of an entire season ticket package for one person (38 games) for our 3-person family to attend one NHL game. Our season tix this year and next (locked in for two years) will cost us just under $30 per game for the whole family (Hubster and I are $11.90/game, Dom is $6.00/game). And if we don't use our tickets for some reason (illness, conflict with Dom's hockey, Hubster out of town on business, etc.), we can exchange our unused tix for a different game and bring friends for 'free'.

Some years we even buy an extra child season ticket for one of the seats behind us (we're on the glass in a row of only 3 seats, so there are no seats next to us) and we use that seat to store our coats, etc. A couple months into the season, we have enough unused child tix to get Dom's whole team into a game for free (parents have to pay their own way, though).
