Great question! Usually our "regular camps" have a 3:1 or 4:1 student/instructor ratio per group depending on the size of the camp. We typically get anywhere between 24 - 28 goalies per camp. However, we have 7 instructors on the ice at all times with 6 stations (1 instructors moves around to talk, instruct and point out certain things during the ice session).

Majority of our drills are two net drills so while two goalies are in the net doing the drill, the other two goalies are off to the side resting, learning and getting instruction. This setup makes it great because it keeps the flow of the drill moving at a fast pace, instruction is efficient because while the other 2 group member are in the net, the other 1 or 2 goalies in in the group are learning as well by watching and speaking to the instructor.

Jr. Elite and Pro Elite Camp

We've received a handful of inquires about the Jr. Elite and Pro Elite Camps. Please note, registrations for these two camps will be reviewed by the Bandits staff and accepted on approval. 24 goalies accepted for the Jr. Elite Camp (AAA and high school goalies) and 12 goalies accepted for the Pro Elite Camp (Jr., college and pro goalies).

These two "elite camps" camps consist of:

- 4 hours of ice a day - 20 hours of on ice training each week

- 2:1 student to teacher on ice ratio - 12 goalies on the ice at a time

- Daily, 90 minute classroom sessions with University of Michigan Sports Psychologist Dr. Hugh Bray

- Daily, 90 minutes of dry land training with strength and conditioning coach Jim Marinoff (2 sessions each day - morning and late afternoon)

- Catered lunch from four star restaurant Andiamo's

I attended the Elite camp over the summer and I must say this is definitely the most rigorous and intense camps I have ever attended. The camp is spread out well and is a great opportunity to learn from other goalies that attend the camp such as Jason Bacashiaua from the Colorado Avalanche, not to mention pro/ncaa shooters like Booth from Panthers. Although the camp has a hefty price tag, if you are looking to prepare yourself mentally and physically before the season, this is the place to go.

So if i had played High School last year and practiced with Junoir A this year, what would you recommend i sign up for? I love being challenged and will work as hard as my body will allow me to.

Mike:

Thank you for your interest in Bandits Goalie School. Our Jr. Elite and Pro Elite camps offer the same training methods, hands on instruction, off ice conditioning and sport psychologist sessions each week. However, because you just practice at the Jr. level this season, I would suggest starting with our Jr. Elite program. Once you attend our Jr. Elite program, our staff will get a better chance to evaluate you for next year and might suggest moving up to the Pro Elite camp the following year. Hopefully you understand. We receive about 50 registrations/applications for the Jr. Elite program each year and only accept 24 goalies. We receive about 20 registrations/applications for the Pro Elite camp and only accept 12 goalies. We try to pick the top goalies for each camp.

Hopefully this information has helped. If you have any further questions, please PM me and we can talk further over the phone.

To see pictures from the Pro Elite camp, go to Bandits Goalie School

Talk to you soon.

I totally know what your saying. I've been with Bandits for 3 years and have done the jr elite for the last 2 years. All I can say is its crazy intense! Having the sessions with Doc B in the afternoons have been extremely helpful in my mental game. Looking forward to going back this year but not so much the early dry land sessions especially when its ran by the "general" coach Joe.

Do you play for DU? If so, great gear and I know coach Joe works with you guys regularly. He's my goalie coach in GR too. Good luck at nationals.

Bruno:

Hope all is well. Sorry my friend, the closest we would get to that area would be our Grand Rapids, MI location. If you like, PM me with your home address and I can send you out a brochure ASAP to learn more about our year round program.

Keep in mind I also do private lessons in the Grand Rapids area as well. If you're every on this side of town or if you would like to book maybe 2 sessions over a weekend (Sat. & Sunday) let me know.

Talk to you soon.

Yes I do, and having Joe out at practices definitely makes a strong impact throughout the season, just like the camps, he works us hard on and off the ice. I agree with you about the camps being intense, even more so at the elite pro camp, where you have guys attending the camp who play NHL, AHL, and top NCAA whom you compete with day in and day out during the camp which makes you push your limits to another level.

Joe's crazy when it comes to dry land. He pushes you thats for sure. I think I might be trying out for GVSU next year. Still working out a few details but should be there with one of the two teams if all goes well.

Now it's time to start working out again for the Jr. Elite in early April so I can get ready for the camp. I hope to do the Jr. Elite for one more year and if things work out do the Elite the following year.

Peace!

The weekly itinerary will be emailed out a week before the start of camp. If you would like it sooner due to travel purposes, please let me know.

Thanks again and we’re looking forward to having your son attend our camp this summer!
