The Little Caesars Women’s Sr. A team won the USA Hockey national championship with a 5-3 win over the Needham Huskies in the title game at the Women’s National Tournament in West Chester, PA, on March 30.

Manon Rheaume (part time goalie and forward) led the way with two goals in the contest and Joanie Denby had a goal and an assist. Sarah Clark and Amy Shepler also scored and Anna VanderMarliere made 21 saves.

She had a spectacular tournament in backstopping Little Caesars to a 5-0 record. VanderMarliere only allowed six goals in 107 shots for a 1.20 goals-against average and .944 save percentage.

Rheaume and Clark led the way offensively. Rheaume had six goals and six assists and Clark contributed four goals and five assists. They were the division’s top two scorers for the tournament. Tina Ciraulo added two goals and two assists.

Little Caesars is only the second team not from Massachusetts or Minnesota to win a Women’s Sr. A championship since 1981.

Bill Ciraulo is the team’s coach.
Little Caesars reached the title game by defeating the Minnesota Blue J’s 5-0, Needham Huskies 4-2, the Depew Saints 3-2 and Assabet 2-0.
