All members please respond - my yearly cry in the wilderness to the Goalie Doctor
It's time again for my voice to be raised loud to the heavens. When can we hope to see some new content written for the Goalie Doctor portion of the site?
In 2001 I wrote: "OK, I've done this before, but it's time to do it again. When, when can we expect to see some new articles from the Goalie Doctor? It's been so long since the pieces that are on the site were posted.
Paul, I know you're busy, but consider throwing us a frickin' bone, man! Back in the days you wrote far more for the site, including semi-weekly thoughts on NHL action and how those goalies were playing. That's actually quite useful having your style analysis. [11-17-2001]"
In 1999 I wrote: "Hey Brett...what's up with the "Longshots?" How long can Paul possibly need to "collect his thoughts?" I think that you should take it upon yourself to write some new content for the site...nothing has been added in, like, a year! [10-06-1999]"
I know we're not owed any new features by Paul, but back when he actually wrote for the site there was useful information. Some of that information is useful, but some has really dated. Check out the article "The Standup Myth" [portion below]
"Now, as a full time instructor of the position, I am in a constant battle with young goaltenders who have been contaminated with poorly thought out systems and ‘copycat’ styles. Often, they have picked up the idea that ‘Stand Up’ goal is what they must play in order to progress out of minor hockey. Like kids do, they take their instructions literally, “STAND UP, DON’T GO DOWN” While I have no complaints with coaches and parents taking time to develop a goaltender, I do have a big problem with ‘goalie experts’, or well meaning parents, repeating something they have heard and preaching what that they themselves do not understand . . .
In fact, if you watch McLean, Vernon, or Richter, they do their fair share of falling down and scrambling!'
Now, I'd say that things have changed quite a bit. If anything, now it's "The Butterfly Myth" that might be warping the minds of young goalies. And really, pretty soon some of the members on this board won't even know who McLean, Vernon, and Richter are, much less know anything about their styles by watching them.
People, please vote in the poll above so that I am not a lone voice in the wilderness.
