The ******* filter

I know that there is a filter in place to edit out the word ******* , however , lately there have been quite a few members that have been attempting to get around the filter by deliberately mispelling the name.

Would it be possible to once again place a reminder on the forums as to why the filters are in place, and ask the members to stop trying to get around it?

In particular, gatekeeperMD likes to add an extra m into *******, other common changes are adding a ! for the "i".

I think that in some cases, people don't understand why the filter is in place, and if they knew, they would abide by the rules.

Some guy just made his first post in the Equipment Forum section, asking for advice for his Pee Wee kid. I tried to share my experiences, and unfortunately had to use the s-word. I intentionally pulled a GatekeeperMD and spelled it S!mmons.

Why? I doubt if the newbie would have known what the hell ******* meant, making my advice even more useless than usual.

Why is the filter there?

Sure, most folks know what it means, but what's the point? Being a relative newbie to this BB myself, maybe someone can explain it.

It is there mostly for legal reasons.

******* has been known to threaten legal action when they don't like someones opinion of them.

The filter allows us to make reference to them, without actually making reference to them.
Everyone knows what it means, but if someone comes on here slandering *******, they can't take legal action against Paul.

I think we should have the post explaining why the filter, on the top of ever forum just for the newbies. When I came I knew what ******* was but some others may not. But if it is misspelled I still think you should filter that out as well.

Please. A plant would be someone who is compensated in some way by a manufacturer to monitor content, and only jumps in when someone posts a question about that manufacturers' product or refutes a negative post. After reading hundreds of posts, I can tell you that I've only seen one manufacturer that has employees post here on a regular basis, and without mentioning names, they have a history here. NO other manufacturer is so vigorously defended, by anyone (well, except maybe JohnBrownGearFan, but he make no bones about it and never attempts to hide his loyalties ).

The filter was installed to allow this board to remain alive. Using misspelling to elude the filter can eventually get this shut down.

Abviously several manufacturers have plants(employees) who post on a regular basis but the issue isnt when one gets defended. Its about when one manufacturer comes on and posts crap like MADE IN CHINA or INFERIOR QUALITY OR MATERIALS regarding a competitor. The Censor was placed as an agreement that preserves the operation of this board and serves its purpose.

If I choose to do an end around on it then the board is still protected by their attempts at censoring. It meets the terms of the agreement. Do you honestly think that my posting in a positive nature regarding Simmmons and by passing the censor is placing this site at risk? If it were I would bet I would have been banned long ago or at least recieved a warning from the owner.

Get over it....just because some may hold a grudge and not want to see Simmmon's name TOO BAD.....

Nobody save Frosty has a grudge against ******* here. And how would you know the terms of the agreement between the Miller people and the ******* people unless you were privy to the discussions....................................... ...
