Moderator Recommendation
Okay, I'll jump on the soap box once again calling for a few more Moderators on the BB. However, I'm also offering a suggestion on how they should "police" the BB.
1 - All mods have equal control over Hot Stove, since that seems to be where they would be needed most to keep order and civility.
2 - Why not have mods in charge of certain forums beyond that? One Mod for the Equipment Section, one for The Goalie Doctor, etc. That would narrow the focus that they'd have to worry about, and would help keep order in the forums a little better.
Thoughts? I know I'm not the only one who has suggested adding an additional mod or two.
Also - related topic here - What "powers" do moderators have? I'm guessing ability to delete, modify, and lock threads...anything else?
Thanks,
Mike the Apeman
(and, Yes, I would volunteer for the job.)

They should have a way for the thread starter to just be able delete or edit some of the foul stuff. Or do they already?

The thread starter can only delete the enitre thread, not specific posts. On another BB I belong to, they have what is called "Troll Control" in each thread where the thread starter can delete certain posts in a thread, but I don't know a) if they're running the same software here on the Miller BB, b) how much something like that would cost, or c) how hard it would be to implement.

vBulletin (what the BB uses) is pretty customizable with hacks and such, but they are a pain to install (some of the larger ones at least) and do cause some downtime for the board.
Also, any glitches wouldnt be found until the board was up, which causes more downtime.

Being a mod sucks when you have to clean up forums and dead/old threads...

Personally a good moderator should be : well mannered and polite, competent in hockey related subjects and mature.
The moderator should at least, make sure this board serves it's purpose (in my own humble words):
"Exchanging Hockey Goaltending information between members in a light, well mannered and respectful athmosphere."
Now, I've seen horrible posts and I mean horrible considering there are kids on this BB. Everyone should refrain from putting foul and innapropriate messages. It's everyone's responsibility to do so but the mods duty to remind certain members that some content should not be posted. Furthermore, it is decent practice to avoid posting, as much as possible, non thread related messages and unfortunatly, I've seen that as well.
I'm not saying the current moderators are not doing their job, I'm just saying that, to an extent, some members should be more careful, and if they're not, the moderator should remind them ....
Respectfully,
François

We have the power to edit/delete posts and threads the power to banned/suspend any and all users that need to be banned/suspened. Have the power to make anoucements (like the ones that brett and paul make) and we see all I think we can edit/modify profiles as well but I havent figured it out yet.
Have you seen our newest memeber? The Third Reich Im about to kick him to the curb.
I think we have the power to add new moderators.

By the way, we all have the power to call the mods' attention to an innapropriate post via the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. We don't have to wait for them to just come across a problem on their own.

Exactly.
A lot of people need to start doing this. Some are good about it. We mods cant be everywhere at once so the report a post option is great, because it sends us an email telling us that there is a reported post.
