What is up with locking lately

Just curious about something and am NOT bashing anyone here. Why is it that there seem to be alot of threads getting locked lately. And it does NOT see judiciously done.

There was a HUGE thread started out by a well known member on here about safety. Next thing you know some tool comes in and blasts both Tony P and Phil Maltese to kingdom come with personal and professional attacks and NO ONE says a thing about it. But as soon as they and members start to turn it around and figure out who the coward is, WHAMO it is locked.

Then again when someone starts a thread about a mask painting that went wrong.. WHAMO locked again. And yet that same mask painter slammed people on a personal and professional level previously and nothing was done. And it wasn't until others starting asking "proof of claim" questions that threads were locked.

What is the standard here? Perhaps I should say what is the verifiable and accountable standard? If the standard is to be that no one should make personal/professional attacks (which I whole heartedly agree with) then it should be applied equally. I mean it does seem that the use of the lock down is rather erratic at best (and we won't even go into the deleted threads).

As I said at the start of this post, I am not blasting any one mod or administrator, I am just curious and confused.
