Gold in the Net (advanced)??

Hey guys - I've been looking for a summer goalie camp and this program was suggested to me by one of the directors, due to my "age and experience". It's not an adult-only program, but you must be 15 or older, so I will be only TWICE (and not three times) as old the youngest students . I'm told there are usually more adults than teens in this group.

It sounds good and is only a 45-min drive for me. Has anyone done this program, knows someone who has, or can give some insight into it?

(Gold in the Net "advanced" camp)

Thanks

Last Line of Defence has. I met him last year at the Summerland camp. He could probably fill you in.

It's alright. It depends on what level you play at now, or your skill level. I didn't find it very helful, because I have been taught most of that stuff already. For the money though, it's a fairly good program.

Campr are great when you're the "old guy".

Nothing makes you feel better than when you school some punk!

Thanks, LLOD. Do you mean that you thought the advanced program was too basic? I wouldn't mind a good review of some basic skills, since I've never had formal training, but I don't need a whole week of that, and was hoping to get into some more advanced theory and practice.

As for skill level, I play well against some pretty skilled players, including Midget AAA and ex-Junior A and B guys (all a lot younger than I). I also play "old-timers" (30 yrs+), and some of those guys have a lot of experience and are quite good. I didn't get a chance to play organized hockey in University, but served as "practice target" quite often for the Varsity team.

I guess what I'm looking for is some solid instructional foundation to fall back on when my game is not going well. I have problems with consistency and sometimes have a hard time figuring out what (if anything ) I'm screwing up. I play mostly by instinct and imitation right now, but it would be nice to have a "cookbook" to fall back on so that I can play a stronger "thinking" game. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone, but it's the best I can describe it.

For the price, I figure it's worth a shot, but the kicker is that I've got to close my practice for the week and THAT gets expensive!

Jawbone: I can totally relate! No formal coaching or training either, and my playing experiences mirror yours. Consistency sometimes eludes me .

As far as closing your practice, do what Frosty does. Down a few dozen burritos and a gallon of milk, then call the CDC. Your insurance will cover it.

And here I thought 'Gold in the Net' is what happens when Al Macinnis winds up for that big slapper from about 30' out. At least that would be 'Gold in the Crease'
