You have to start with the question, "What is slideboard training for?" It's more of what I talked about in the other post: to develop your skating muscles by doing skating-like motions. Check out my page on slideboard training. (Just don't view it for too long or you'll tire that poor boy out!)

Youcould make that exercise more interesting by strapping on a pair of pads, but they might drag on the board. I'm sure that some 5 lb or 10lb ankle weights would do wonders for your skating strength. Just be careful of your knees!

1. Kneel on your slide board. Slide your legs apart. Recover to an upright kneeling position. Great for building groin strength.

2. Same thing as above, but add reaches to the side or in front. It simulates a reaching glove save on a butterfly or half pad, and teaches you balance, while building both core strength and groin strength.

3. Same thing, while throwing/catching a ball against a wall. Builds strength and balance while also building hand/eye coordination.

A greater piece of trianing equipment does not exist. I LOVE the board.

That Goalerone board with the Ball shooter looks like it would make for an amazing 1 person workout. No need for a person to shoot...just use the board and shooter.

I'm thinking perhaps in the basement...working on specific glove hand positions, etc. This would truly allow you to try new positions and movements since the shooter never gets tired and is ready whenever you are. 24/7

Pretty cool stuff.

I picked up a 6' slide board at a second hand shop for around $5
I got a child's toy pitching machine
for around $50

Normally this particular machine works by stepping on an air bladder, but I found that by putting the bladder in my trapper, I can trigger shots while on the slide board, or on inlines!

cool stuff indeed!!!!

I spend about 10 or 15 minutes a day on it. Works wonders. I gotta find some new exercises for it though, I'm getting kinda sick of the basic skating motion.

I made mine 10 foot long because then You can get more explosion in your stride. I figure if I could get a good push and then a good stretch would be A #1.
