Introduce yourself!

I'm new...well sorta- to this Bulletin board and I don't know who anyone is. So, if you want to step forward, say your name, how long you've been playing, your nickname, how you aquired it, what team you play for, what you like besides being a goalie, your age, WHATEVER- it would be very interesting! :-)
I'll start out. My name is Goaliegrrl, I've been playing for 3 months now. I don't yet have a nickname, but I hope to get one...something nice hopefully. I play for the Sirens' a womens traveling roller hockey team and besides being a goalie I like a lot! I love reading, writing, working-out, using the computer, playing pickup hockey, going to be beach...pretty much just having fun. I'm fifteen at the present and have played hockey since I was 10, but started skating at 4. Okay, that's me...now its' YOUR turn!

Goalie Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrl, eh?

I'd be happy to introduce myself, since I am new to this board as well.

My name is Aaron Spaulding. Like you, I primarily play roller hockey. I live out in Southern California, San Diego to be exact...not exactly a hotbed of NHLers, but, hey; maybe I can change that. =)

I'm 16 years old, turning 17 in August. I've been playing for almost five years now, all through high school (I graduated this past year). The highest level I've played at so far is adult tournament "B" level, which features some former RHI (John Gravelle and Mike Duffy, San Diego Barracudas) and Junior "A" players, and even a few international players (Johan Englund, Swedish National Team and Malka Hakkinen, Finnish National Team). I'm sure no one's ever heard of these guys before, but believe me, their credentials speak volumes about how they play.

Currently I play on the 17-and-under "A" division in-house Capitals,
and I hope to be invited to play with The A-Team, whom are headed to NARCh.

I also skate out on and captain an adult roller hockey team that plays on Sunday nights.

You know, I honestly cannot say that I've been christened with a nickname--not in goal, at least. On my adult team, they call me "Cap'n Crunch" and/or "Double A".

Outside of hockey, I play bass guitar in a teeny little local band called Forbidden Realm with some of my other hockey buddies (I suppose that really doesn't make it outside of hockey, now does it?).

I like all sorts of music...anything 'cept rap, really. My most recent CD purchases were Local H, Godsmack, Megadeth and Led Zeppelin; hence, I like anything except rap or hip hop.

Post graduation, I'm entering the work force, for a number of reasons; primarily 'cause I can, being so young (only 16) and having already graduated. I figure if I can work for a year or two, and save up my money to buy a car (and some new goalie equipment, of course) and pay for college, why not? It'll give me a huge head start over most other people just entering college. I plan on attending San Jose State and majoring in Psychology.

So that's me in a nutshell. Thank you for introducing yourself, and giving me the opportunity to do the same.

-BG29

Hello goaliegrrl,
My name is Jake. I am 20 years old and have been playing goal (on-ice-only) for about 15 years.
I play Jr. C in a little farm community called Glanbrook, in Ontario. (We have won the provincial championships, 3 years in a row) I know what most people think about Jr. C, It's just a bunch of goons. To me, however, that is the most ingnorant statement I have ever heard. My team's philosophy is one of discipline and defense. You can put my team up against any Jr. B or Jr.A (tear 2) in our area and we will run them out of the rink. Anyway, I'm getting side tracked here.
My nick name is "Jocco" (pronounced jock, with and O at the end). This was given to me by an accident. When I attended the All-Star game for my league, we had a dinner and guest speaker before the game. They gave us little plaques and shirts for attending and callded us up by our name to receive them. My name is Jacob but some how on the program it was written "Jocco". I don't even think Jocco is a real name. Well the other reps from my team thought it was just a ROAR! Sure, they got all of their names right but of course they had to screw up mine. Well needless to say that was good luck because I played the game of my life. I don't say that lighly either. I could't get scored on. I palyed half of the game. I went in when the score was 4-1 for the other team. The final was 6-5(over time) for my team. They squeaked one by me with 13 seconds left. Damn it, I almost had it.
I ended up getting the MVP for my team and since then the name has stuck.
My interests are hockey, hockey, and oh, did I mention hockey. Occaisionally I'll play golf, but I'm not very good, their isn't enough contact in it for me.
Anyway that's me, hope I was interesting.

BriansGoal29- hey, I might see you at the Narch! The Sirens' are seriously thinking about going although they haven't signed up yet or anything...we went to the Narch Qualifier (sp?) in Beaverton, Oregon and came in 1st...so I guess we can go if we want too. 1 more thing, why isn't your name, like, AronGoal29? Why Brian? Just curious...
How many shutouts have any of you gotten? I've had a pretty bad record since so far...I've only played six *real* games, the first one I let in 9 goals...c'mon, I only had about a month of experience! grin. The second one I let in six. The next one I let in two, the next one, none, the next one, none and the last game 3...so I'm improving...I hope. lol

Hey Goaliegrrl, Nice to meet you. I have a few female friends that play goal and it's good to see more starting up. Sounds like you are having fun and doing well, keep it going.

My name is Keith but my nick is NetDog, I got it playing for a team called the Coyotes. I play an aggressive hybrid style and like to handle the puck alot and talk to my team constantly during the game. I have been known to growl or even bark at the opposition when they get to close, very intimidating. I started figure skating when I was 4 and when I went to start playing hockey at age 10 I couldn't skate on the regular skate curved blade so I tried goalie skates (flat blade like a figure skate) and I skated awesome. I have been in goal ever since. I was on my way to a junior tryout when some-one ran a red light and totalled my 7 day old car. I Burried my knee into the dash board and severly injured my back. I needed 2 operations on my knee, 1 on my back and 2 years of 3 days a week rehab. I have been back playing for 1 year now and am unfortunatly past my prime. I play in an adult league and am having the time of my life. I missed playing so much for 3 years, but I am glad to be back in the pipes. My first season back I played for an expansion team that wasn't very good. I would get out shot on average 50 shots to our 10 per game and we lost 28 of 32 games that season but I had fun every single game and didn't mind that we lost because hey, I was playing again.. Now I am on the same team and in awesome shape, playing HOT, our team is going to the final next week. We have only lost 4 games this season. Anyway enough rambling, I live in Beautiful Vancouver B.C. Canada and I enjoy hiking and the natural surroundings we have here, as well as snowboarding, golf and excersize in general. I am trying to get into the best shape I can.
I missed 3 weeks this season with a concussion and I have only been back for 3 games so I need to work hard to bee in playoff shape for the final.

Keep playing and make sure that you are having fun. That is what it is all about, not winning but just playing. Although a shut-out is nice now and then.

CUDO's to the guys running the Bulliten Board. Good Job

Peace.

Hey, folks..I love this BB also...awesome posts by everyone.
I have been playing ice hockey for about 6 years. I did play street hockey as a kid, and loved playing goal then; so when some friends got together to play ice hockey, I went between the pipes. On the big picture, I guess I am just a hacker, but I try to be a student of the game and improve each time I go out.
I am 30 yrs old (yikes, where did the time go), and these days I play industrial league, my company has a tournament every spring, with teams from all over Canada and the US- only employees may play. This year it was in Boston and I was unable to go as my daughter was born at that time. Next spring it will be in Montreal, and I plan on winning the trophy this time!!!
P.S My I hope my daughter plays goal when she gets older.

Name - Euwyn P.
Age - 14 (a rather old 14...)

First exposure to hockey was at 10, 'Nucks 1994 playoff finals. Loved it, but it was still pretty foreign. I played as a winger for two years to learn how to skate and to learn the game (I was completely foreign to hockey) All of this geared towards playing my "dream" position of course.. goalie...

Last year was my first season between the pipes in Bantam C hockey, but I managed to match the play (and stats) of the last goalie cut from rep (learned a lot from him) My "natural" goaltending ability is developed from a history of goaltending in soccer and mostly from goaltending in the basement. I've been serious in improving my athletic ability (which I know right now sucks, very badly) this summer (I was a weakling.. believe it or not I could barely do 5 pushups two months ago. Slowly but surely adding on or two pushups a day I worked myself up to being able to do 30 today, as well I've been stationary cycling 7 miles , 20 min a day, and 50 situps. - PS -Anybody have any comments on my training routine, anything I should add in there to improve it?)

The reason why I said I was an old 14 is that I am entering Grade 12 this fall, and my friends are 16-18. I hope to be able to make the A team this year, next year move on to a US (New England) prep school (Im not too keen on entering university at the age of 15. No thank you) for one more year (perhaps more hockey!)

Nice to "meet" all you other goalies out there!

Omigosh! Euwyn1- you've got to be pretty smart! Hmm, I'm going into my sophmore year and I'm afraid I'm not looking forward to it...especially algebra=groan. Anyhow, I can only do about 10 pushups...and after those I feel like my arms are coming off. lol. Sprints, sprints, sprints, sprints! My goalie coach told me to do those and they've helped...although I don't know how. grin. Besides that every now and then I'll just get my pads on and do butterfly after butterfly which helps strengthen my legs...

Hi, My name is Bill Nichols and I've been a goalie (far worse than being an alcholic ) for 21 years. The only nickname that ever stuck was "Bill". "Mr. Bill" went out of favor after I I got my Ph.D.

I am also,
A physicist in the nuclear power industry (for a company formerly known as Westinghouse)

Graduate and former goalie (#55) for the Carnegie Mellon U Tartans.

Father of a 6 yr old boy and 4 yr old girl.

The boy wants to skate out, but the girl wants to be a goalie. When I ask her if she knows what a goalie does, she tells me
"No!, that's why I want you to teach me!"

I'm Kevin. Originally from southeast PA, now residing outside DC. 26, I play mostly in a roller hockey league in Nothern VA, just learning to play on ice. Exposure to hockey & goalie began in junior high, playing street hockey making our own goalie equipment combining old lax gear with ice hockey & baseball used equip.

Now I've moved on to the NHL, as network administrator for the MCI Center & Washington Capitals (please don't hold any of this against me!!)

I've only been on this BB for a few weeks, but already it has become an invaluable resource!

Hey all my name is Greg I have been playing Roller Hockey for about a year and a half. I live in South Florida so Ice is hard to come by. A rink is being built but it seems like no progress is ever being made.
My nick name is Bigdog not sure why it just stuck. I started plying goalie because I was the only one with the pads ( left over from a kids team I coached) but fell in love with the position and they will have to pry me out of my crease (except on a breakawy I love to challenge).

Thatsa abut it,
Greg

My name is Lowell and I've been playing in net for about 7 years (I skated out for about 2 months when starting out but never again). I started out playing rollerhockey in Pensacola, Florida with the Pensacola Suns and also with the Panama City Florida Psychopigs. Then moved to Boston for a few years and played ice for about 3 months over a 3 year period. Currently I'm living in Milan, Italy and playing for a rollerhockey team called the Ambrosiana Rhinos. My favorite number is #1 and my favorite pros are Potvin and McClean. I'm 29 years old and my nickname is Five-hole (not that I give up many through the wickets but it rhymes with my name. I really enjoy this BB and I'm curious if there are other forums where people exchange goalie info on the net or any other interesting web sites for goalies. Also, any thoughts on the best places for buying equipment in the US or Canada (mail-order or over the net or walk-in?)
