Goals Against Average

How do you figure out your goals against average?

Take the total # of goals you have allowed in your games, then divide that # by the number of games you have played.

I.E. 14 goals in 5 games = 14/5= 2.8 GAA

But does it not have somthing to do with minutes played also. I fact if you go to the computer rankings for the NHL in Goalies World Mag non of the Goal against work out when you figure it your way?

Josh, try this:

Take the total number of minutes you have played, divide that by 60 (or however many minutes your games run). Then, take the number of goals you have allowed in that amount of time and divide it by the number you figured out earlier.

Example:

You played 330 minutes (60 minute games) and allowed 12 goals.

330 minutes/60=5.5 "games" ; 12 goals/5.5 "games" = (approximately) 2.18 GAA

I am putting the final touches (cleaning it up) on an app that I am going to offer on this site that will allow users to log games played and generate stats for them as the season progresses.
