setting up a dump-in

Something that came up between myself and my defenseman was where to set up the puck on a dump-in. I know you should leave it about 6 inches from the boards, but here's something else we discussed.

Depending on what side your defenseman is skating in on, you may want to pull the puck out farther.

Also, try to recognize if he/she is right or left handed! This makes a difference also. Maybe you all know this, but to us beginners it's something to consider.

My defensemen like me to leave the puck about six inches from the back of the net. This allows them to come in with their back to the boards and looking up ice. Of course, I only leave it if I don't have a clean shot at passing it up by myself. Gotta love those assists!!

I used to play the puck, until my new defenceman (stupid freshmen) came with his head down, and smashed into me. One torn hamstring later, I have decided never to go behind the net again, untill I get my confidence back.

I don't think you should stop going behind the net...Just one time in practice, you should set up the puck for that defenseman, and as he's coming to get it, "accidentally" crush him with all your mighty goalie-ness (translation: TAKE 'IM OUT!!!).

Actually, since I am the starting goalie for my high school team, coach values my opinion. Guess which d-man isn't playing for us next year?
