Fitness

I was just wondering what type of conditioning yall do? And I don't mean sitting on the couch and picking up another chip, beer, remote, etc... I'm looking for any original off-ice fitness programs besides the typical running and stuff. Also, when it comes to lifting weights, wouldn't it be better to do a lighter weight with more reps than a heavy weight and less reps? I think this because (1 you don't want to be real muscular cause muscle weights more than fat so it would slow you down and (2 you need muscle endurance and not so much muscle strenght. Just my opinon on that..if wrong..please let me know.. And by the way..I'm a rookie goalie and I was on the verge of losing my spot to a more experienced goalie but on sunday we played the #1 team and we won in overtime giving them their first loss of the season. Not bragging on myself but just thought that was pretty cool.. I know yall more experienced goalies have much better stories and stuff but that was the best game I ever played. Later

I do stretches for about half an hour on my bed at night before going to sleep + whenever I happen to feel like it. I also try to do 30mins on the exersize bike while watching games on TV but I still don't do it often enough. I need to do weights sometime but I have't started yet.

I only play once a week so I really work at it to keep in shape. I work on strength and endurance at the gym twice a week with a two day break before games. I work mainly concentrating on flexibility, leg strength for mobility, forearm strength for handling the puck, and strong abdominals. (because every save starts from the abs)

I also do 1/2 hour of steady hill climb on the stair master followed by 10 miles on the bike at a medium pace. At the start and end of every workout I do alot of stretching. (Flexibility is increased the most when stretching at the end of your workout)

I mix up this routine with a general full body cardio circuit training routine when I don't have as much time.

Of course eating properly also goes a long way to providing enough energy to last a full game.

I always do the exact same routine before a game... I'll arrive earlier than my teammates, run a few laps around the rink (outside), do a few high kicks, than sit down and sttttreeetttttcccchhhhh and more stretching. Off the rink however, I also have a very strict fitness schedule; its pretty normal. I ride a bike or a stationary bike for 25 minutes, run for 1/2 hr or at least a mile,do 15 mins. on a stairmaster, do 200 crunches, TRY and do a few pushups (I'm horrible at that) stretch and do a few other things; whatever comes into my mind. To keep from becoming INCREDIBLY bored during these boring routines I pop a tape into my walkman and listen to music. Besides this which I do every day except Saturday and Sunday I take Kick Boxing classes as well as modern dance. This next semester my sister and I are planning on taking weight-training at the local community college. (She is also a hockey player.) But than I'm not as old as all you (wicked grin, lol, grin) so you needn't feel bad if all you do is stretch. J/K

Scare you? I beg your pardon? =) I've always done crunches and used to do 110, but than slowly upped it up. I mean; I don't spend ALL of my time doing crunches, but I sprinkle them throughout the day. I like crunches!!!!!!

The only thing I hate more than crunches are push ups.
