skating?
Where should my weight be when I'm skating around (turning, coasting, shuffling, etc.)in my goalie skates (ICE)?

turning- these are for tight turns- back of the heal of the skates. ( going behind the net)
pivoting- Back leg 100% weight from back of heal to front. Transfer weight to other leg starting from back to front of foot.
Go buy the book "Laura Stamn Power Skating" book. It 's a very good book

I've read a lot of Laura Stamm's book with my free time at Barnes & Noble and I don't recall seeing anything about goalie skating.
I'm concerned with my weight distribution because I can't seem to get the hang of ice goalie skates (maybe it has something to do with the fact that I've been skating out on ice for 2 years?).

Read the book again. There's no goalie section. It's the part on C-cuts and forward strides. The only difference is that you don't move or roatate your upper body. read forward stride, starts, stops, turns, agility.

But goalie skates don't (in my opinion) handle AT ALL like player's skates...

Squealy, Badgerit is correct in saying that goalie skates don't handle like forward skates, but don't let that freak you out. You still move your feet and body the same way as before; it's just that goalie skates don't like to turn as well as forward skates do, but you can slide sideways on them much more easily than on forwards.
So they handle differently but drive the same. I think you'll like them.

How well is not as well? will I still be able to play chicken with the faceoff dots? How about when skating forwards? Can you still do toe flicks and stuff without losing the edge and pulling a mussle?
Sliding better will be good I'm can already slide pretty far with forwards skates.
The thing I think will be best is the better ballance. I'm pretty good with the balance on forwards skates but if I accidentally get onto my toes I'm screwed.

Goalie skates handle much better for playing in goal than forward skates do; they're the right tool for the job.
I don't know what playing chicken with the faceoff dots is -- I think I'd always lose because they *never* flinch. }
You'll love the way goalie skates slide. With their long flatness you'll have much better forward-backward balance: it's hard to get up on the toes with them. You may want to get yours profiled to adjust the forard/backward angle. I did mine and it's much easier staying in the proper stance.

Well I've just ben trying out my new skates for the last 3½ hours and all I can say is I'm not as good with them yet as with normal skates. I can't turn as well, I can't slide as far. I did notice that I could stop better and I didn't get onto my toes once. The most annoying thing was trying to make a save only to lose the other foot. because of the skates being lower. I guess I need the overdrive blade Well by the end I was getting used to them more but I still can't move as good..
Ah well, I guess I better go nurse my brused shoulder.

Stick with it. I think you'll eventually like the goalie skates better.
I'll go get the ice pack and Ibuprofen.

Well I guess your right. I am getting used to the skates and I am begining to like them more than regualr skates. b4 my game yesturday I taped my ankles and that seemed to stop the blisters from getting worse (toilet paper where the blisters actually were) although I did catch a couple of leg hairs under the tape so that was pretty painfull. The bruse hasn't got nearly as bad as I thought it would but it's still a little sore.
