Leaning forward while on the ice

When I drop to my knees for a low shot, either for the five hole or to either side, I tend to lean forward to brace myself with my glove and/or blocker. The result is my wrists and elbows have a tremendous amount of strain on them.

What is the correct form? How can I can control my torso when lunging for a shot?

Hopefully my problem and question makes sense.

Thanks.

Balance and core strength

one of these is likely your problem your actuall save technique may also be the culprit. A glaring weakness in any of the three will produce the result you describe or a combination of any two or all three of them to lesser extents can also produce said result.

You should be able to drop down to your knees (and get up again) without bracing yourself with either hand. Sound like you need to work on your balance and/or leg strength.

I support this...a weak abdominal wall could be a reason. And don't forget to also work your flexors and your lower back, obliques as well. They all work together to make your core stable.

I noticed that i was leaning forward cause my core was a little weak. Then, after correcting that, i noticed i was leaning back and sitting during b-fly taking away coverage over top. It's all a thinking process that eventualy gets ingrained in your motor skills...plus the training/conditioning.
