What kind of resources and videos are needed?
During the summer we will be producing some new articles and video resources. This would be a good time to post some requests, suggestions and ideas.
We will do 5-10 articles and 3 of the topics have been decided. The first one will be advanced article on choosing the right stick to fit to your style and modern goaltending requirements. It will rewally be an update to the older basic article we did on this topic, but now we will add video etc to it as well.
There will also be new Finnish web service for hockey coaches that will launch before next season. I am working with this new company to produce a set of basic goalie drills and resources.

I would definitely be interested in seeing videos with plyo drills as well as reaction training drills.

I'd be interested in self-analysis and self-evaluation. I'm the only non-Japanese on my team, and the only input I've ever gotten from my team is, "don't go down." The language barrier presents quite a problem.
I take video of myself as often as possible (both at practices and games), but I often don't what to look for. After watching the video for a while, I often end up grabbing a beer or two and looping the highlight saves. Things like checklists of what to watch for would be extremely helpful.
Thanks!

This may be out of place but...
Sorry to barge in on Jukka's thread but...

Here is the self-evaluation we have developed. I believe it is quite thorough. Check it out some time.

Video idea
I think it would be excellent to see some saves and positioning from ice-level, so we get an idea of what the puck really sees. For me, I've kinda simulated it on the computer.
The attached image is a screen capture from a 3D program I use (Maya). It was originally for my team who told me that I looked a bit off angle (from their view from the bench)... so I wanted to tell them that what they see from the bench is completely different. I've measured and the goalie picture's proportions match my own, both butterfly width and shoulder height.
It's all real-time, so I can move the puck anywhere, and the goalie stays square, and I see all the different views at the same time. It helps me visualize how much net is available in both a down or standing pose. It's rigged in a way that I can adjust the goalie's depth easily.
The playerRight view is what a left-handed shooter would see (I made the player around 5'10"). The playerLeft view is for a right-handed shooter. playerBenchView is what my teammates would see. The puckView lets me know how much depth I need to cover the top corners. In the screenshot, the puck is positioned on the face-off dot.
So, any drills you can do with live people would help tremendously I think. Maybe butterfly slides, t-pushes, any kind of transition move into the view from where the puck will be shot. It would give people a better understanding of the puck-angle-net relationship, and just where you can be beaten in the corners.
Maybe mention or shoot from an alternate angle, a top view at the same time, to show the depth of the goalie as well.

Reason: Had to split the picture into 4 because of attachment size limit

Thanks for the input.
This coming Sunday we will shoot materials for the first new resources and the stick article & coverage in the lateral movement will be the first ones.
We are doing a lot of plyo and agility training at the moment with my goalies and I will try to shoot some of the drills later during the summer as well.

Jukka,
I'd be interested in the stick choice article/video. I'm going to assume something like here is the stick position in an upright stance, and here is how it looks in a butterfly stance, and show the effect of various paddle lengths, and lies.
If you could get a camera to represent a goalie's eye level view I would like to see some various screened situations.
I see some NHL goalies initially "look high" to see through a screen, Kipper and Nabakov come to mind, while others prefer to"look low" to see through a screen, Hasek and Vokoun as examples.
Perhaps you could set up some different screening patterns;
far shot, close screen,
far shot, mid range screen,
far shot, far range screen,
mid range shot, mid range screen
far shot, mid range and close screen,
and other similar scenarios.
Have the camera look high through the screen, then low, and maybe left and right around the giving four scenarios high left, low left, high right, low right. Which of the scenarios gives the best view of the play.
Maybe out of this if a goalie recognizes one of the patterns, a prefered first look
can be developed instead of random, or trial and error. The preference might also be altered by the height of, and handedness of the goalie.
Thanks for the offer to help shape your resources.

Backside recoverys with using your edges. Also a little on how sharp you skates should be to use these moves.

I'd love to see some videos geared towards reading the shooter - same shooter, same approach to the net, leading to different shots, with analysis of how you can tell what he's going to do based on what you see.

I think an above the ice view (or various views) of how to cut the angle down, would be a fantastic help, especially for those that do not know how to properly do it.
Just my 2 cents worth,
Ben

Anyway you could just post videos of your goalies doing drills, like 5 or 10 minute burst of just drills that people could watch?
