I wonder if rubber would slide very well, what about regular skate guards? would have to figure out a way to attach them securely.

I don't think the rubber would let your skates slide well at all and you would only want the rubber overtop the blades if you were practicing your BF slides and leg strength while pushing. You'd probably have to take them off for practicing anything else on the board.

^^^ Agreed. I haven't tried the method, as I'm only familiar with the products. Would a bit of talcum powder alleviate any sliding issues? (If using rubber guards, as mentioned above.)

Then, the talc might nullify the gripping properties of the rubber guards, thus hindering your push-offs.
So you'd be back to square 1, in addition to smelling like a freshly bathed baby.

If you could find a platform shoe like the one pictured (from the 70's), it would simulate the height of the skate! And after your B/F slide practice, you can do some pimpin' on da side.

Hey, check out Elvis, doin' a B/F Slide maneuver!!! LOL...

Someone had a thread about felt covers yesterday.... Spidergoalie, I think? Seemed to work well for him on a varnished wood floor.

Well, I know my wool socks sure slide around on the laminate floor in our family room. The probably not 100% wool, maybe a wool/ polyester mix. Quite slippery though, add a little pledge to the mix and I'm sure a guy could end up on his butt quite easily.

It must be pretty hard to find a yard of wool?

I went to value village and got a pair of stretchy work out pants and cut them in half. They work awesome on my tile floor.

I don't follow if you can't use your skates on the sliding board whats the point of shaperning them with a 1/2" hollow for the board??

So I was thinking the other day ( Wait! Yes, this usually does get me into trouble) but it would benefit more to practice BF slides on my homemade board with skates on. Lets experiment.
So what I did was put two strands of sock tape across the blades of the skate and then took an old bike inner tube and wrapped the blade of the skate with the tube and used sock tape to secure it to the skate. I thought this will protect the blade and keep it from sliding so as to allow a good push off.
Results..... negative on the good push off, rubber still too slippery on freshly pledged slide board. Does protect the blade though. Oh yeah, I also use a couple old hockey jerseys too cover my pads. I stick my feet through the head hole of the jersey and then use a couple old skate laces just behind the thigh rise to secure them and keep them from sliding down. Slide great .
I think if I used the slide board inside where it is surrounded by carpet you would be able to transition pushing off with one leg on the carpet then sliding across the board. The odds of my wife letting me do this in the house, not likely.
So I was think if I use a couple of old area rugs on either side of the slide board that should keep my feet from slipping out on the board or garage floor when I try to push off.
Maybe I should video myself and post it to see what you guys think.

Never in my life have i seen someone on a slideboard with skates are you saying it's not possible ?
if so i am very interested but i find it hard to believe
will this ruin your blades after a while ?
would a 7/8 cut do alright ?
i am having trouble digging into the ice to get enough force on my push when i slide towards my trapper side can this be because of my skates or just that i haven't developed the technique enough ?
I can do it towards my right side just fine, but by using the toe of my foot which i heard was bad my goal is to be able to slide both ways with the whole skate blade touching the ice, will this help me be able to ?
other than this issue i'm a great goalie don't get me wrong
