My kid has attended two of their camps, one in July and one in September (the very day this thread was started, in fact). The July camp was the very first time that my 7yo kid had ever attended a goalie camp, and he learned SO much. The difference from July's camp to September's was amazing -- even the camp director noticed a huge difference in his butterfly slides.

Here are some videos from my kid at the camp in July -- I haven't had time to edit and upload any videos from the September camp yet. (Before getting brutal on these videos, keep in mind that these are my kid's first EVER attempt at T-pushes and shuffles -- he just turned goalie towards the end of last season, and his team's coach never taught him any goalie stuff.)

YouTube - T-pushes

YouTube - Shuffles

YouTube - Skating

YouTube - puck machine (the infamous "backside recovery" video -- beware of 45 seconds into the drill if you feel vicarious groin pain!)

YouTube - advance and retreat

I can vouch for BTP's videos as well -- the DVDs were professionally produced by a real film crew (the same one that shot the Detroit scenes for Eminem's Eight Mile and Eddie Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop, as a matter of fact) -- this is not one of those homemade videos with Joe Blow on skates with a camcorder. They rented a boom for overhead shots and hired an actor to do the voiceovers, etc. (They even have a few minutes of bloopers on one DVD -- hilarious stuff!)

My DVD set is actually at the coach's house right now -- my main reason for purchasing it, aside from the fact that my kid can watch it whenever he wants to, is so that his coach can get an idea of what to do (and what not to do) when setting up practices and drills for the team.

BTP or No Rebounds

Does anyone have either the BTP "Your game starts here" dvd or "No Rebounds" dvd for sale or to borrow?

Looks alot like the same stuff that Keeks did (exact same props, L-theory graphic etc.) with the No Rebounds DVD series.

I'm willing to bet that when Keeks does his next set of DVD's they will blow this away.

Having said that, it looks credible and professional, based on the promo spot they posted.

That's what I thought... looked like mostly stuff I've already seen on the No Rebounds DVD's, except for the one butterfly drill where the goalie was "walking" forward up the ice doing the butterfly movement. Odd.

your game starts...and ENDS there. Why would you ever have a promo video with a goalie that stacks the pads, and another who throws a diving poke check? wow.

Some people believe everything they read. I think Irish has spent too much time with the boys at GDI.
Goaltending is not theoretical or abstract, it is actual and concrete. Watch the best and learn. Simple as that.

Thats great but if i went to a goalie camp and they incorporated the diving poke check and pad stack i would pretty much not do it lol.

i mean i havent used a pad stack or dive poke check, lets see, actualy ever. So i guess its really what ever works for you but, it will die.

it wont die if it still works. it's something that's being done less frequently than in the past, but it's still there, and not just older guys either. carey price did a kick save and a 2 pad stack back to back the other day.

What is the reasoning behind your attitude? Do you lack the confidence to try different things?

If you have not incorporated these techniques into your goaltending repetoir then your save selections are incomplete. These are valid and often used techniques at all levels of professional hockey. They are taught by professional instructors and coaches to pros, and amateurs like you. The techniques will not die and will continue to be utilized as the goaltending position, and its techniques, continues to evolve.

To take the color commentary of a tv announcer and analyst without a grain of salt is like buying a pig in a poke. In other words you don't know what you are getting because they usually are only talking to fill space and rarely are their comments timely or worthy of consideration to the competing athlete.

There are distinct game situations when pad stacks and diving poke checks are the appropriate save selection. Perhaps you have never encountered the high level of play that demands these responses. However, I assure you, that they will be utilized long after you have hung up your skates.

I think an ex-NHL goalie, who is also an NHL Goalie Coach already offered his own commentary. Interesting how it compares with what the TV guys say... talking heads.

Eh, Keeks?

I just watched every HS state tournament game in my state. Not one of those goalies did those moves. I dont know if you know were Shattuck Saint Marys is or not, but i attend some weekly sessions with their goal coach. He has never even hinted at these save selections.

Pad stack is to me a VERY DESPERATE move ossoicated with over commiting to one side and then sprawling to get back to stop. I dont get out of position very often, and when i do i can butterfly slide over.

But hey im just a kid, a kid none of you have seen before, what could i POSSIBLY know. Youd be surprised.......
