Season starts in 17 days... I am excited/nervous
This will be my first outing in an organized league for about 3 years. I played two years at a local college before taking nearly 3 years off to get married, etc, etc. I've been playing on and off (usually going a good 5-6 months then taking a few months off) over the years as well as working out a lot. I have not skated in a few months, but I have been working my but off. Lately, I have been doing a lot of pilates ( I know... I close all the blinds while I do it) to help increase flexibility and core strength. I have a silly habit of doing wallsits while I brush my teeth. My teeth get clean and I strengthen my legs. Overall, I feel like I am somewhat ready to play
I started going back to school this summer and our school has a team that I will be playing on. We have another goalie who I will be competing against, although it looks like we will end up splitting time barring any unusual circumstances. We have about 35 practices and 13-15 games this year. It will be nice because I can work on things that I want to work on for a month or so before our first game. I've been working on my hand eye coordination, as well as my reflexes. Surprisingly, I've been playing a lot of Brickbreaker on my blackberry. It seems to have helped my coordination a bit. I've been using a tennis ball and a wall, throwing the ball against the wall and waiting until the last possible moment to catch it with my trapper. I used to do this to help warm up for games too.
Overall, I am very excited! Does anyone have any advice? I only have a few weeks left.
