Ah the joys of being young -- I'm as flexible as I'll ever be at this age!

Yes, enjoy it. Your body and your metabolism go downhill after 25...

We used to use one of these in my Tae Kwon Do class. We called it "the rack"- brutal, but effective.

I just sent him an email. I am a little skeptical but I really want to believe that this thing would work. I can touch my toes just fine, but hip flexibility is a whole different kind of story. Can hip flexibility be improved or am I limited by poor genetics?

I can tell you that when I was in college, I could do a side split fairly easily, but now that I am almost 39, my hips have really tightened up...use it or lose it, I guess. However, I am making progress as you see in my last posting. I can now also touch my foot to my forehead. I'm not sure if I could ever do that before...

If you have sore hips the next after playing like I did, you would greatly benefit from this. I played two games in a row this Sunday (56 shots,52 saves total) and had no soreness Monday morning...good luck

I already received a response from Shaun. He was honest in saying that genetics does limit hip flexibility but said that I could achieve a level of flexibility that I have never before.

I would like to be able wake up the next day without hip pain. This is something I will have to look into more.

Dude, you're still young. You shouldn't start coming apart until you're 30...

Guys and gals, this looks ok, but remember you will not make many saves doing a split while seated on your butt. One of the reasons you pull a groin or strain hip flexor is because goalie movements are done with WEIGHT, yes your weight, and gravity on top of your groins or hips.

I'm not saying this isn't a good product, I'm going to buy one, but you must do stretching and strengthening....I've been in PT for months and months from torn groins, and lots of my stretching is done with body weight...

I have the NY Islanders rehab and beyond program for groins, and I don't see this gadget. Like I said, I want one though, every bit helps. I just don't want some of you to think that this is the best and only way.

Cheers

Having bad joints runs in my family.

SID, I know that you have to combine strength training as well. I'm just worried that I may not get what I want out of this due to hip limitations.

You are limited as far as bone structure goes, meaning that it may not be possible for you to do a full split if legs are limited by the shape of your hip sockets, but as far as flexibility and muscle build go, you can change that if you're willing to put in the effort. I used to be into body building in college and managed to put on 30 lbs of muscle while shrinking my waist to 29". I was also at my most flexible then. Just took a little dedication. Since I tore my groin a year ago, I make sure I do my sets of squats (full range of motion-ass to calves) at least once a week to strengthen my knees, hips and leg muscles. No more groin pulls for me.
