Knocking the Net off - Consistantly (loose net)

Hey Guys,

quick question. I play in a couple of beer leagues which have very flimsily posted nets (ie they use the cheap pegs to hold them down to the redline). I have a decent sized goalie 6'0 tall very wide shoulders and big large traps etc...and I knock the net off the moorings all the time. Now I am trying to stop doing it but I think my bad skating skills and size are knocking the net off during play and frustrating the other teams.

I swear I don't do this on purpose as the refs just blow it down and usually its when a goal is scored infuriating the opposition. I feel kinda bad as I want to win fair but is this common for you beer leaguers out there?

I like to push off the posts in scrambles and backdoor plays so I tend to kick the posts all the time.

I've occasionaly had this problem, esp. if somebody crashes through the net early on and creates the "groves" behind the "magnets" then its off all night...

Saturday I played an outdoor game and there were no posts at all I was constantly moving the damn net its frustrating ... and I feel your pain, but that being said I wouldnt modify my game just because the rink has poor equipment.... '

If it gets really bad in a game I'll ask a ref to help me out and reset the pins..... which most of the time they are happy to do ...

This happens to me quite often as well. I use the posts all game. At the beginning in warm up I will go to the ref and tell them to peg the nets extra deep if they have the adjustable pegs and if they are the bad ones (not adjustable) I will take the extra snow that I make when scrubbing the crease, and a little shot of water and pack it around the bottom of the pegs and let it freeze, sometimes it helps other times it doesn't. Other than that there is not much more I can think of to do.

Alot of the time if it isn't off by much I'll just put it back myself if I see the oppurtunity. If it's happening alot, perhaps you're playing too deep in your net?

Yeah I think I play a little too deep. I find the occasion where I take it off is when I shuffle from post to post. I think I loosen the net with my shoulders. Also I grab the post tight to stop those bad angle squeakers from the short side.

This reminds me of my intramural game last week:

Keep in mind there are no pegs. (lame!)

A pass came out from the corner to a guy right at the top of my crease on the opposite post. He got a great shot off, but I was able to make a sprawling save to my glove side; however, the rebound sat right in front of my pad. I had my leg against the post, and was trying to cover with my glove, but the repeated hacking and more guys rushing on top of me pushed the net off... and my pad backward. Not into the net, but across the line. The puck advanced further across the line. (I still think it didn't cross the line totally anyway) The ref instantly ruled it a goal, and I went nuts. Mind you, these are just college kids paid to ref these games...but the net was clearly off. It was just very frustrating.

I've gotten so use to pegs. I dunno how many times I've kicked the net off beating a break back to the post in this league. I did it 3 times in that game alone.

Despite the crappy goal, we went on to win 6-5.

im sure it has nothing to do with his technique.
set the moorings yourself by pounding them into the ice until they sit flush in the divet the moorings create.
same thing happened to me at the rink i play at. this is usually a problem when the ice is real hard.

The four pin claw is the worst ones, I think the better is the single pin under the bottom as it makes a better dent to sit in.

Dharma boy you play out of the Icebox

That sounds like too much work. I just pick up the corner by hooking some fingers in the net, pop in the mooring and drop the net. Works great for me, I've got to hit the post pretty hard to get it to move.

Kinda, depending on who needs me. I usually play out at the River Cree Twins or the KofC Twins off 137th.

Do you play out at Serves on Thursdays and Saturdays?

Meh, it happens man.

If you're serious about wanting to change it, try packing the loose ice along the posts and spraying them with a little water. That method works really well for me and I'm a bigger goalie too.

Another simple way is to pack the posts into the ground youself. Any time I see another player try to put those moring in, they just set them on the ground and drop the post on them. If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself right?

i have a problem too...

I play roller so there are no pegs on sportcourt, ice court or tennis courts.

This last weeken in Snellvile I was playing behind my team which came out a bit flat (2 breakaways in the first 10 seconds of the game).

The third goal they scored, it was one I thought I did everything right and it felt as if everything was in slow motion.

Shot comes from the right face off circle by the boards, I drop to a butterfly with my right leg extended out further then the left. Kinda a half butterfly.

I watch the puck come in as my foot makes contact with the post, following the 30 MPH shot (maybe a faster, but it felt slow) come to my leg pad. I put my glove in front of the pad just incase to cover and to get the whistle. After the whistle, I slowly get up to get the puck from under my foot since i figured it got stuck there.

Turns out the puck was going to miss the net by 6 inchs, but when my foot came into contact with the post, I opened the post up 1 foot and it was a goal.

I laughed, Coach laughed, Ref didn't realize it. Then I turn around to get water, and I'm getting pulled.

****ing players, if only they can come out strong there wouldn't be a need to change momentum in a game with a swap of goalies.

I came back in, but by that time the other team had lit up the other guy.

By the way, can't you come out in warmups and freeze the pegs or moorings in place by pouring water into it?
