Do people seriously have nothing better to do then chirp on the kid for that fight thread for this long? Yeah maybe once or twice after the 3 or 4 pages of the thread was...maybe....alittle funny. Now it's just getting annoying. Give the guy some advice on the question he asked or don't respond to the thread. This is how stupid arguments get started over nothing and threads that may be useful to the person who started it get locked. If anything take it to PM.

In response to the thread, I'd say take the advice given above and call the coach. Can't hurt either way and it def shows you want to be there. Who knows, maybe they've just been busy and haven't gotten around to calling anyone.

Thanks boys, I called and left the coach a message at his home number (Don't ask how I got it... jk it was in the answering amchine of the orgaizations number). Hopefully I'll get a call now things look grim but oh well

One thing to remember is that not being picked for a team might not be based solely on skill. Attitude and personality can also have a big influence on being selected.
There is nothing better than a good attitude for team sports. A willingness to get along with others and a polite person.
No matter what happens, keep a positive attitude and always work hard. If you get passed over this time, continue to practice, meet and talk to other players and always carry yourself positively. Word travels fast in the sporting community and if you get a reputation of being a hard worker with a good attitude, many more doors will open for you then if you have a bad attitude.

Well I called the coach, left my message, and I talked to one of the goalies that was at the tryouts said he got a call that said he made it (surprise! he was their 3rd goalie on the bantam major team but was there his whole life... go figure)

Looks like I got shafted again! High School gongshow for me!

DO't look at it like you "got shafted" there is alot to be said for club's that have some loyalty to their players. When we hold tryouts, we we look at "club jumpers" who have played for several different clubs over the years with a little suspicion. Most club's try to build teams that have a chance of staying togther and developing over the years, and look for players that have some loyalty.

Also, a few things that mihg thelp at your next tryout.These are things we look at very carefully when evaluating goalies:

1. Attitude - are you really upbeat and positive the whole time you are at the rink for tryouts? Confident but not ****y? Friendly, and act like a potential "good teammate'?

2. Work ethic - Are you at the door ready to go and one of the first ones on the ice? Are you the first goalie in when the coach blows the whistle for the next drill? Are you outskating and outworking the other goalies every second you're on the ice?

3. In the net - Do you play every shot like it's the last game of playoffs? Do you play every rebound even on repetitive shooting drills? Are you ready to step in when switching out with other goalies? Do you step out when you time is up or try to grab a few extra shots?

4. Out of the net - When you are waiting your turn, do you goof around with a puck, or pay attention and study the shooters and other goalies? Are you leaning up against the boards or sitting on the ice, or warming up doing butterfly slides and motion drills? Are you showing everyone on the ice that you are ready to step in and be great?

5. After the tryout - Do you skate by the coach and thank him, or say anything ("I like the way you run the tryout" or something like that? If you talk to the coach, are you positive and enthusiastic? Last year, one goalie that almost made our team, lost his spot partially because when our coach asked him if he really wanted to play for us, his answer was "Yeah, I guess..". Sorry, but unless you really want to play for us, and are serious about it, we probably don
t want you.

Every minute that a coach might observe you during a tryout, you have to be ready to show them that you are the goalie they want.

Keep this in mind for your next round of tryouts.

And on top of that basing half of a decision on how a goalie would respond to that, WOW i think thats rediculous

You can choose to look at it as ass kissing if you want, but you're going to be practicing those skills in one form or another throughout your adult life. It's called politics, and if you don't learn to play the game now, you'll learn it later!! The boss, the wife, customers, people who do work for you, auto mechanics...just about everyone you'll come into contact with on a daily basis. Learn to deal with it, because later in life it gets more important.

As stated in the post right above, youth sport is about a lot more than making the team or winning the game. It is about "life lessons" and learning things that will help you in all aspects of your life. Some are hard lessons to learn.

I know it's all politics, nothing new. I'm not gonna bring myself down to kissing the coaches ass and telling him how well he ran the tryout or how great his style is. That's counterproductive (especially if we're picking by personality now)- why pick some kid who has his nose up the coaches butt with no self respect?

We're not going to see eye to eye on this one. If sweet-talkin' the coach mean making the team I don't wanna play for that guy.

I don't even know what to say to this. No wonder you don't make teams. I hope your parents have a busines to hand over to you when you grow up.

You seem to be what we refer to as a toxic teammate, and would avoid like the plague regardless of talent. BTW, in most areas, coaches talk, and reputations get around fairly quickly. I'd be surprised if you weren't already on the "to be cut" list before you even stepped on the ice.
Your tryout fee was probably just a "donation" to the club.

Easy boys, the kid makes a point. Just because he's not sucking up to the coach, doesn't mean he has a bad attitude or that he is a cancer. If I were a coach I'd much rather take a hard worker who goes about his business quietly rather than the kid who's always in my face, coach's aren't dumb, they know when a kid is sucking up to them, and in my short experience, they aren't too fond of it.

I know how much they talk because in my area my old bantam coaches are out to piss in my cereal because they were bitter that I quit their team after getting my playing time robbed even though they promised to play me the majority of the time. The club I tried out for wouldn't even bother with talking to those coaches
