Vew Do Balance Boards

Anyone ever heard of these or had any experience with them?

edit (here is their main site)- Vew-Do Balance Boards, Balance Board Exercise Training Equipment
I was reading Mens Health (highly recommend this magazine) and they had an article on how to take your workouts to the next level. On one of the pages the had a full page picture of Steve Nash working out on the Vew Do board. The caption said that he could perform his entire workout on this board.

heres the Article minus the pictures (i'll try to find the Steve Nash one)- Secrets from America's Best Gyms : Home : Health & Fitness : Sympatico / MSN

I could see this greatly helping goaltenders. I'm thinking about buying one for use with workouts and hand to eye type of stuff. I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this item and to show it to others on the board.

Where to buy them- Product - Vew-Do Balance Boards

Found the picture-

for a fraction of cost you could make your own with plumbing tubing and a 4x2 son used this for his working out for hockey plus coach had the kids stick handle on these.

I agree, D made one a few years back and he still uses it from time to time. Just slapped a little grip on the top of the 4x2 for his shoes and bought different size PVC pipe for variety.

We have had a vew-do balance board around for 10 years. Kids used it for helping them get better at skateboarding and working their balance for hockey.
We also have two wobble boards which they used so they could separate their feet. My son's were able to pick up surfing and snowboarding on their first attempt and I believe that it is because of the time they spent on the balance board. My youngest son began using the balance board when he was 8 to help him in goaltending. He would balance on the board and I would toss tennis balls to him which he had to redirect with his palms. It looked like it helped him to develop balance, recovery, and reflexes. The boys got into doing tricks on the board and they were able to jump in the air and do a 360 turn landing the board back on the roller, later years a 540. My goalie son developed this into a trick where he would celibrate a win by jumping in the air for a 360 spin. I believe it really helped their skating. It takes a lot of athletic balance to perform squats or toe raises on the balance board. My suggestion for a goalie using the balance board solo is to balance on it while bouncing tennis or raquet balls off of a nearby wall.

My dad makes balancing boards and has been contacting some local sports stores to get some interest in producing them etc.

I'm guessing he never saw the vew-do. Poor guy will be crushed. These look fancy and they probably have more street cred than the ones my dad makes.

But if you want one on the cheap he would probably be willing to make one.

Sorry the INDO Board has these all beat. It's sold in many many skate and surf shops as well as sport stores. They are very popular and have been on the market a while. They are roughly the ame idea but INDO boards have a lot of "Street cred" and are retailed around the world.

Google results:

Indo Board: 487,000

Vew Do Board: 27,500

I do agree though that it is a pretty simple concept and can be easily replicated, I have thought of doing one myself but dont have the materials. I have tried out the INDO board and love it if anyone is interested.

Hey Hammy, just get your dad to take some pictures with you using them. That'll give his product INSTANT STREET CRED!!!

Can I sample one of your dad's balancing boards?

If you're dad can make a good board for less he will own the market. The expensive commercial boards are not marketed to kids but to affluent sporting adults.

I don't know if it's worth him shipping it from vancouver to sample but I'll see how many he has and how much he would make them for.

They don't look as cool as skate boards.

I'll get him to send me some pics with him on them. Much less street cred to be gained from that though.

Masked_Warrior, which INDO board did you try out? Did you think it would be the best one for goaltenders in the INDO line of boards? They just have a ton of boards and I'm not sure which one to look at/ research.

I'm not too knowledgeable on these balance boards, but would the Vew- Do's Rockers have anything to do with them being any better (not saying they are, I'm saying would this improve the boards or something that uses a normal PVC pipe). The rockers for the Vew Do boards seem oddly shaped and it would look as if this would make the board more challenging.. no? i really have no idea though.

I am aware though of another board- Extreme Balance Board (Product - Extreme Balance Board)
I have used these boards before, they are really great because they not only go left right, but forward and back. But they are very expensive.

One of the cool things about this board is that you can rotate on it, watch the second video and towards the end you see a guy rotate.

This was from an earlier "Turco" thread that shows some goalie specific things to do on a balance board (and more).
