Everything is an hour except yoga which is 1 1/2 hours. But you should give yourself 1 1/2 hours because of the extra breaks.

I suggest you do a pre90x workout over 2 weeks then start the program. Your going to be very very sore the next day.

Key is to know your limits- for example don't do 30 pushups on the first excercise, do like 10-15.

Go buy some recovery drink like Eduarox (sp) and or Accerlade as well.

Heyy I really like the sound of this workout and Ive read through both this thread, aswell as all the previous one and I really think this is the right workout for me.

The only thing holding me back from buying it now is my dad, I have the money but i dont have a credit card so he would have to pay, and he just doesnt want me to buy it because he is firstly skeptical about infomerical products, and secondly thinks that I can get just as good a workout at the YMCA and I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I can say to him to convience him to let me buy it.

Thanks

Maybe you can tell him that the program was recommended by an NHL goalie coach. Maybe that will give it some more credibility in your dad's eyes. Also, not to recommend this approach, but if you search the internet, you can find the videos available for download.

That, and point him to this thread and point him to the P90X section of Beachbody.com's website and go through all the before and after pics with him. That alone does speak volumes.

I'd be happy to converse with him via email if you want. sloth2946 at yahoo

Tell him to goto YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. and search p90x.com.

If you do your research you could find the whole program and do it without the DVDs.

I'm trying to find info on what equipment is needed to do the program, so I can figure out the "real" cost. I have a decent series of weights that I'm guessing would be sufficient and a yoga mat, but that's all. I know you need a chin-up bar and resistance bands. Is that it?

I've been so frustrated trying to find and stick to a "get in shape for goaltending" workout routine that incorporates ALL these things. It has felt overwhelming to try and find ways to fit it all in, but this seems to cover everything I'm trying to accomplish plus a bunch more. All I need to add is actual ice time, which is a no brainer since it's the fun part.

I just purchased mine. Needed some variety in my workouts, so I decided to see what all the fuss is about!

I wanted something challenging, hopefully this delivers!

Chin-up bar, yoga mat, push-up bars if you want them, resistance bands and dumbells. If you have a good set of dumbells, you don't need the bands. The bands are an alternative to the chin-up bar and dumbells although getting them gives you more options for doing the workouts...plus the bands travel better than dumbells if you are out of town for any reason

Thought I'd chime in on my current experience and opinions with P90X.

I ordered this having nothing to do with improving my goaltending skills. I got hooked by the "get ripped in 90 day" tagline and the success stories. My comments below are based on what I am looking to get out of the program.

After the first workout I put it back in the box and ordered Power 90 (P90) which was Tony's first video series with Beachbody. It was more than 5 years since I've seen the inside of a gym and starting slow was the best move for me. In my opinion, to get the max results you should be in OK shape or already working out before doing this.

If your main goal is to loose weight, and get in better shape then you are then you might not need to haze yourself with this program. Power 90 is more for basic conditioning and weight loss and the diets behind the two are different. If you're looking for that ripped look, in my opinion the diet is equally if not more important (unless you have an insane metabolism) than the workouts.
If you follow the true success stories, and those who win the monthly contests they all followed the diet guidelines pretty strictly. How can you tell? Most people on the bulletin boards post the daily eating accountability. To be honest the diet is no real secret and Mont posted some nutritional info a while back which has a lot of the same theme as Beachbody's nutritional guidelines.

I am on the message boards there and see people doing the program, not getting great results fast, and getting frustrated. I think they should be doing a different program first. It's easy to be impatient and want the quick 90 days, but to each their own.

If you want to stay true to the program it does take a significant time and committment. I usuallly workout around 6:00am, and I've been experimenting with breaking up the Yoga workout into two parts. Those that are familiar with the routine know you could probably stop about 50 minutes into it before the balance and yoga belly section - However the end of the Yoga video does a lot of streching that's probably good for goalies. I also usually do Ab Ripper X at night before I go to bed.

Anyway - I am getting in great shape and am now looking better than I ever had. I can't wait for my 90s to see all my progress.

By the way I followed Power 90 for 60 days and then switced over to P90X. Tomorrow I finish week 2 of P90X.

Stat Day 1 P90 Day 60P90/Day 1 P90X
Weight 184 168
Pant size 34" 30/31
Body fat 22% 12%

Hope you don't mind the long post.

Richter Fan: Sounds like you're doing the right things. Your comment about being in shape before P90X is dead on. As well as the diet too. I am not following the diet but I am getting adequate results. I know if I did the diet I could be down 15 or more lbs but as is I am down about 10-12.

-------------------------

Update. I am at the end of week one of Phase 2. Let me say....that 'recovery week' tricks your ass. With the exception of the Core Synergistics, it is a week to cruise through. Your body relaxes and gets comfortable in its current state.

Then day one of Phase 2 rolls around....Duck with an F is all I can say. God damn....wasn't expecting that. Kicked my arse for sure. Rest of the week has proceeded similarly.

Also came to the realization that I need to purchase some bands, in fact I am going to do it right now.....I've been using a cable pull down on a universal to simulate the pull ups because the pull up rack in the exercise room is just inadequate for P90X and what I need. Poorly designed I might add. And Back/Bicep day exposed the weakness of the cable pull down on the corn cob pull up. I should be able to use the bands properly in the exercise room with no issues as I will wrap the bands around the universal machine at a specific point. I checked this out yesterday to see if I can continue doing this week in that exercise room.

Anywho...I am 5 weeks in. I started around 212 and I jumped on a scale last weekend and was @ 200. Not sure what my BF% is but I am going to grab a BF scale this weekend as well. Target is still around 180. We'll see if I meet it or exceed it. I am targeted to finish around the 4th of July. I should have an after pic around that time. I have no before pics as state above. But I will post a pic of what I looked like in a monkey suit at my sis-in-law's wedding 2 days before I started. That should be a good reference point.

Sloth - Have you looked into adjustable dumbbells instead of using the bands? I started with the Bowflex SelectTechs. While they're pricy I was able to get them on sale for $100 less than what they normally go for. I ended up returning them and recently got the new PowerBlock SportBlock 5.0s. Takes a little bit to get used to their look, but they cost less than the Bowflex, are more compact, and seem to be made much sturdier. I see your on LI guy and there are a few places on the Island that sell them.

I'll continue to use the dumbells that are in our exercise room downstairs, but the bands are for the pull up stuff exclusively. I was about to click on 'order' for the bands and then I decided to check Modells and Sports Authority's website to find heavy duty bands for like $13! No brainer and I don't have to wait a week to get them when I need them tomorrow! Needless to say I have to stop on the way home.

PS: Wellsie....thanks for the encouragement! It has been hard work and a lot of dedication and I aint even half way through!!!
