What do/can I say?

Hey my team's getting our asses kicked in 3on3 right now.

Our first game was only an 11-9 loss, but then our next two have been pretty bad:

18-9

15-8

What the hell do I tell my team? I've let in a few bad goals, but it seems like my team gives up in the 3rd period no matter what the score. My team takes WAY TOO MANY penalty shots, and I stop most of those, but holy crap, we're not winning, and even when I make a really good save, I don't even get a "good save" from my team. I know goalies should never blame anything on their team, but my stats are really suffering as my team never skates back at all on defense.

What do I do?

"What ever happens...happens." Pascal Leclaire (on what he learned by playing behind the blue jackets)

"Roses are red, violets are blue, they got ten, we only got two" - Gerry Cheevers after his team got demolished

Just go with the flow. As a goalie you have to learn how to do it. I've been in rinks where I've had the entire parents section laughing at me (no i don't need anger management) . I just learned to forget things, when your playing 3v3 just forget about the score, when they score a goal just shrug it off and concentrate on stopping the NEXT puck on net. Good Luck.

Thing is, I don't have much faith or confidence in my team's defense and am starting to lose that in myself as well. When you have a team who glides back into their defensive zone, and the opposition can all be able to pass the puck around whilst standing about 5 ft. away from each other, it gets to you.

You need to drink some beer before the game.

Also buy some RBK pads then you'll be good.

Everyone knows that

Alright well first off I'm 14 so lol, yeah.

Secondly, I have a pair, they seem a BIT big for me. Should I give them a go in our next game, and risk an even bigger loss? On the other hand, we could come off with a great win, but yeah. My knee is sort of half below the knee-insert area and half above, so I don't know. I'm 5' 1" (holy crap I know )

@ Cias: Trying to just suck it up is pretty hard because I want to be competitive, I want to play well, and I want to win, but what type of message does that send to my old team if I request a team change?

If the team doesn't play in a competitive league, you should just go out there and have fun.

Well 3on3 is mainly for just staying in touch with your game for the regular season, but when you have a lot more fun when you're winning, that's just a fact.

know what man, my spring league team is a ton of fun, but i get lit every night. its hard when your top players get kicked out for fighting in the middle of every game...
just go out and try and make the best stops you can. maybe good chances to experiment with puck handling, and tune up your technique in the tough situations.

Seriously, winning doesn't matter if it is not a competitive team to begin with.

dunno, i play roller hockey in a rec league 2-3 times a week, my sunday team is horrible man, i face none stop breakaways and people just hanging in the slot waiting for one timers, we basicly lose every game but the way i look at it is its GREAT practice. i face 2x the shots and get to practice my breakaways alot more then my other teams

I lost my first 16 games. The game we ended up winning i had 52 saves and only let 4 in. My team went for a full change in my last game while the other team had the puck coming across the center line. Ended up being a 5-0 so you can imagine the defense i have. We finished last season with a 2-16 record and the only reason we won the 2nd game was because we were playing the first place team in the league and they were resting for the playoffs. Like the other guys said you just have to shrug it off and focus on the next shot. If you get angry its just going to get worse. I am close friends with a few of the guys on my team so i had them come over one night and taught them what a defense was. I told them where i wanted them to be and what i wanted them to do for each situation that we could think of. A few of them took the hint and it got a little better. You could also try videotaping one of your games then showing them how terrible they are.

This is a great community. You guys have helped out a lot, and I guess I'll just keep my head up high and stick it out. I guess it IS ICE-TIME so I might as well work on stuff like backside pushes and the like. You guys are all awesome, thanks.

my college hockey team were such complainers that the regular "A" goalie switched ends for a game, with me playing for the "A" team and him on the "B".

Well I faced 69 shots and none went in. Why because I was facing so many shots per game b4 that, when I actually had D'men to retreive any rebounds that got away from me I played great. My team (side i was playing for) actually started letting them have breakaways etc, just so they could ridicule the forwards for being shut out and they were scoring at will on the "A" goalie. My team was openly critical of my skills so to this day I realize that I will always make sure that I am not the weakest link, because "real" players will see the truth as to why they scored.

The point is, because my team sucked and I had to play to a higher level to maintain my ego ( the one that says "I will try my hardest not to be scored on") I actually rocked when being given the proper support, you will also continue to improve as long as you don't let the # of goals being scored on you inflence the way you feel about your skills.

PS: I think they wanted to send a message to the reg. goalie also that without their help he was just as likely to be scored on as that sucker at the other end, because we won 16-0. It's the Ken Dryden syndrom, he sucked as a goalie, it was the fact that he had some of the best players ever to play hockey out in front of him to prevent scoring chances. Just look at todays NHL, some teams play "D" so well that the goalie doesn't have to be great, just good enough to win, as opposed to some goalies that have to carry the whole team into the playoffs etc.
