High Hamstring or just a pain in the butt?

I write this while sitting on an ice pack....

Like most of us older guys, we only get the 5 minutes on the ice to stretch/warmup after the zamboni gets off the ice. I'm usually pretty good about doing some light cold stretches in the locker room before getting dressed just to loosen up a little bit. But yesterday, I pulled, tore, strained, I don't know what my left high hamstring, way lower left butt cheek. I can walk without pain, and can even sit on the floor legs out flat in front of me and lean forward just a bit before it feels like someone is tearing out the back of my thigh.

I'm doing the ice on off thing now, have taken some ibuprofin, but need to start thinking of rehabing it. I'm supposed to play tomorrow(Tuesday), and then I'm off the ice until Sunday again. I also have a 4 game tournament in South Lake Tahoe the first weekend in June.

Suggestions?

Injury

Hey,

I had the same exact thing happen to me 2 years ago in juniors. When it first happened it just felt like a little pull in the same place so, like the moron i am, i played on it. Well it got worse and worse everytime i skated until i couldnt play anymore. What really hurt was getting up from my butterfly or any explosive movement "up".

Later that week i see doctor #1 and he cant really figure out what was wrong with me so he sends me for an x-ray. Nothing doing so he says its a slight pull and i can just play on in a week. Wrong, in fact it was worse when i got back on the ice.

To make a long story short i saw 9, yes 9 doctors about this problem and not one of them could figure it out. All i got out of them was 2 cortizone shots and 5 MRI's in a 6 month span and still had the same pain that i had before. So out of reference by one of my new trainers i go to a sports chiropractor. First time there he looks me over, they take x-rays again and come to find out my pelvis is twisted forward. After some adjustments the first day, i walked out pain free. So if you have a chiro. that you trust or a good sports one around you i would highly recommend going and bringing up the pain you have.

Hope this helps and good luck

Is there any swelling or discoloration? I tore mine back in college and the whole back of my thigh swelled up and turned purple, while feeling extremely hot to the touch. I went ahead and played on it the following week, but I just ended up hurting it again. You can make it through a decent portion of the game if you are careful(I made it 2 periods), but I ended up injuring it trying to stop a rebound. The only thing that worked for me was not playing on it for a couple of weeks.

No discoloration, no pain to the touch. Can move around daily activity without even noticing it. I've been trying to very lightly stretch it throughout the day, nothing hard, just trying to touch my toes (a challenge without injury) and just reaching until there is resistance and then just a hair more. I'm going to be an idiot and play tonight, but then I'm off of it until Sunday at the earliest, next Tuesday at the latest. I've been sitting on and off of ice packs all day, 15 on, 30 or so off, and then back on again for another 15.
