Let in 7 goals lastnight
I'm new to the position, only been in it for 3 months, and only played 5 regular season games. I was doing quite well till last night, I let in 7 goals.
NOT FUN, our team was quite out matched, and I had many 2 on 1's and one 2 on nones. The team didn't blame me, and even apologized.
At one point I found myself yelling at my team, to which I apologized right away at the end of the period. Regardless besides that outburst, I was quite composed.
BUT IT FELT LIKE CRAP LOSING LIKE THAT!

Yeah losing is never fun. I get pissed at my self during stick time even. Although you can't totally blame it on yourself. Hockey is a team sport and winning takes the whole team working as one.
It's good to get lit up once in a while though. Winning wouldn't be any fun without losing. Just keep your chin up and play that much better next game.

Only 7? You should have played Junior B . Just remember ..if the goals you are letting in are not your fault.... its tough to put all the blame on yourself . Its a team sport...and we are the LAST line of defense . If I have a skate like that , I try to focus on not letting the same type of goal in....focus on where they shot last time and stuff them...it will make you feel better.

Unfortunately, it comes with the territory...to get lit-up once in awhile.
Heck, last season I had the odd game go to double digits b/c of uneven skill level. You're best to think of these games as learning experiences...might help with the frustration factor.
Believe me, we have all felt your pain at one point or another.

I can tell more about the character of a goalie when he has given up 7 goals than I can when he is pitching a shutout.

Dude, I used to routinely give up 10-12 goals a game when I started out. It ain't the NHL so who cares? Are you having fun and learning the position? That's all that counts.

That's less than my GAA this year.
If your team's apologizing, they probably felt overmatched as well. At the end of the game, did you feel you stopped everything you should have, and maybe some you "shouldn't" have? That's the way I look at it, so it kind of takes the emphasis off winning and losing. I take more pride in a recent 5-4 OT loss than I do in my wins on my first team (my first team was by far the strongest team in the league, and now I play on a team where I have to stand on my head to keep opponents out of double digit territory) because I played better with more of the pressure for the outcome on me.

My Stats Page
2 wins, 2 losses so far..
I'm happy with my team for the most part, and I'm happy with my performance for the most part. But losing 7-1 felt like crap. There's always next game!

Just remeber there is alot of goalies out there that win becuase they are on stacked teams so they think there better than they are. Im proud of the fact in my well..roller hockey session so far I have the best gaa on a decent team that cant score haha. They skate fast but dont play much defense basically. Lots of danglers on the team. They dont back check at all though and I have to face 4 shots sequence unless I control my rebounds .I have the lowest gaa so far but that will change as the summer goes on if we continue to play like we are. I had like 44 shots and lost 4-3 the last week and got the goalie of the week. That loss I felt like a won a huge playoff game becuase I was robbing the other team.
Now I am not bragging becuase for fun I play in a deck hockey league on shoes in net against guys who dont really play seriuos hockey and I get shelled 8 goals every time and make an ass of myself but on skates I been kill'n it this year. The shoe league I dunno if its becuase we use a ball but I get my ass kicked in deck hockey haha. I got imature and busted a goalie stick over the cross bar infront of everybody last week

That's a pretty good point. When evaluating a game, one of the things I look at is the number of soft goals I let in. All goals are bad, but those are killers.
And then I drink to forget them!

There are some shots and some situations you simply cant do very much about so, dont worry, the important thing is that you learn what you can and then forget about it, move on and dont give up.
Its happened to all of us, some of more recently than others but, i guarentee you will bounce back from this. The last time i let in double figures, i won 3 of the next 4 and got MVP in 2 of those games.

Had a game myself a few weeks back, lost 5-0, the other team were essentially a whole division and a bit higher than us, skill wise.
Still, my positioning was good and I was pleased with my own personal performance. I faced countless shots, I think somewhere between 40-50 (other goalie maybe 5-6 shots, the whole game).
I looked the positives from own personal view, then the following week the team won 3-1
