Terrible Knee Bruising

Hey guys. I am a 19 year old netminder playing college hockey. I have been playing goal for about 8 years and have never really had issues of pain or injury, however lately I have been suffering from horrible bruising and swelling of the knees after every time on ice. I'm not sure as to why. My knees have not been falling off the stacks or any of that jazz, but if anyone has any info as to why it's happening or how to stop it, please pitch in. Thanks guys.

Same here. Multiple thinner knee stacks worked better for me than the traditional RBK big block. But the best thing for me is using the Asics gel VBall knee pads angled slightly inward rather than frontward. Thats where the bruising localized. I can now slam the butterfly and skip the ice packs. Hope this helps.

Possible Solution

I use the new premier 2 pro knee pads and have found that helps eliminate the bruising, plus it allows you to do away with thigh boards etc. I use these in conjunction with Premier 2 pr pads with the standard Reebok big block.

Just to give you an idea I am 6' and 220 so it's a lot of poundage hitting the ice in this setup!

i had this problem too. my knee stacks were to thin and they were wearing down. i got some volleyball kneepads and just wore them. now even with my new Vaughn pads i still wear em- guess its just a habit.

Same thing has been happening to me and i have no clue why. Well i dont really bruise but it will be red after the game then it will hurt like a bruise after. I tried vball knee pads but they kept shifting on me and even though they helped were far too annoying to deal with.

You could be hitting the seam where the knee stacks meet the pad on the softer part of your knee. It is real easy to get a bruise there doing this.
