Stick side HELP...

Hello!

I tend to get beat up BADLY for the last 2-3 games on the stick side. I've always had a weakness in the lower corner on the stick side, but it seems now like my reflexes are getting slower and slower. I've changed my C/A and pants, but I don't want to use this as an excuse (As I don't think it changes anything).

So my question would be, do you have any tips/videos/web pages that gives information on strengthening your stick side? Like I said, in the upper corner I'm doing fairly well, it really is from the blocker all the way to the ice.

Thanks very much as usual

This is usually a tough spot for most goalies. You can experiment with different paddle lengths, perhaps a custom lie. The biggest step you can take to reducing these goals is to keep your blocker far out in front of you, so the angle is taken away and you are able to watch the puck to your blocker.

I use to have this problem. I've moved my blocker hand in front of my body since (even to the point where I double-cover with my pad in a standing position). This has helped me because if I had my blocker cinched tight to my side, my mind didn't seem to let me be too active with my blocker....and because I needed to fix my stick positioning

I was always taught not to punch the punk, just get your blocker in front of it and tilt it to direct it to the corners. Or if it's a slower shot cover it up with your glove on top of your blocker.

stick side help (pointers for those of you who need them)

this is odd for me it's my strong point, though when skating out I am right handed and in goal have my trapper on the left hand, stick+blocker on the right. maybe you are using a stick that's too lite. I usually use a midweight fibreglass reinforced one
like the Koho 580, this way you keep your stick + as much of the blade as you can on the ice which helps if you want to (who doesn't) keep shots from going through
your 5 hole.
admittingly I have a lot to work on having only been a goalie for a few years but I hope this helps.
