I really wouldnt agree with that. I think a 'treat' once a week of a pizza or something keeps you sane but, if you want to take it all seriously then you need to eat the right things or your body will just collapse from the exercise with not having the right things to feed your muscles.
It also depends what you aim for, weight loss compared to muscle gain for example, mean totally different diet plans and work outs.

You said you were going to cut out diet soda, but that's not a biggie. A can of cold diet coke will actually burn about 5-6 calories to warm it to your body's temperature, and it only has about 1 calories, so you lose weight drinking diet coke.
Also, you said you didn't like fish, and I'm the same in that I don't like "fishy" fish, but things like tuna steaks and salmon I love, which are both very good for you, but I'm not sure if you'd like those.
Buy a heart rate monitor that measures calorie expenditure, that way you don't go for a walk and think you burned 100 calories and get a little bummed out, but rather you get home from a walk and see you've burned 300. Or you wont get home from a run and think you burned 500 when you only burned 250. Know what I mean? A good Polar heartrate monitor will keep you on a good track, and when I bought mine I bought a really expensive one to motivate me to use it.
Alcohol has about 7 calories/gram, which is only 2 calories/gram less than butter, so stay away from it as much as possible.
The recommendation is not to consume any calories after 8 p.m. because when you're at rest anything you digest tends to get turned to fat, but most people rest after about 6, so that's when you should really stop eating, but 8 is more realistic.

the best way to lose weight for hockey is to play hockey... I literally lost like
10lbs. playing street hockey in the summer with some buds, I played almost everyday for a good amount of time along with drinking water instead of soda and eating good foods. I didn't really need to lose it but oh well

Yeah and Green Tea I forgot has ability to help you melt away fat. Real green tea not that crap you see everywhere. Prolly some natural food store. If you have sweet tooth another thing I noticed is natural/ organic..espically bananas has like more or=f a sugary taste to them then grocery stores and sometimes there kinda green or not as bright yellow in color. The banana itself is darker in hue to. Porblem with natural food store is its kind of pricey but hey if you buy smart foods and not blow the extra cash on garbage then your not losing any money. PUT IT IN YOUR GAS TANK
Another awsome snack is them dyhydrated fruits. It seems like society frowns on anybody that doenst have the T.V bodies. I see it all the time and I live in Indiana which is redneck nation. I'm starting to even think jobs will only hire people based on weight anymore.

Best pieces of advice I can offer:
As quickly as you can, learn your body. Get an idea of what you respond well to (food- and exercise-wise) and what you don't.
Push yourself, but don't get discouraged. You will have bad days and you will want to slip and eat crap, but if you're going to make a change in your life, you have to overcome that need to cheat.
STICK TO A PLAN. It's so much easier to get on the horse and stay on it when you know what tomorrow's plan is. Plus, you don't get discouraged with short-term downfalls.
theeagle: While I don't think you need 4-6% BF, it does somewhat make sense for an employer to consider appearance. Not every skinny person's in shape, but if two people are competing for the same job and they have relatively similar capabilities, then why not pick the person that seems more fit? From personal experience, I've seen that the same person minus 40 pounds is sick much less often, has higher energy levels, a better disposition, and is overall more likely to be productive. It's not exactly fair, but there may be a reason...

I folks, im making my plan. I just didn't have a plan in place. But Thursday is where it is at. I need some help making it though.
Breakfast: Yogurt, Fruit*, WW Toast, No sugar/fat jam. ( HATE Cottage Cheese)
Lunch: Salad, Fruit
Dinner: Grilled Chicken, side of WW Pasta, or WW Rice, and Veggies.
Snacks: Almonds, Fruits even, **
Drinks: WATER!!! A glass of Milk here and there?
Veggies: Broccoli, Carrots, ( and Salad ) . Cauliflower, Cucumbers.
**: Any other ideas?
Fruits: Variety.
For the Bfast or even lunch: Is a egg white plain omelet okay? Just wondering.
Exercise: Stairs, steep ones in my house, 3 flights. Running around the outside of my house, Push ups and Crunches? 6 Times a week? 30 mins a day? Work to 40?
I need to lose 40- 45 pounds. For me, loosing weight isn't hard. I did it before and was loosing a consistent 5 pounds through the first 3 weeks of "cleansing " I need to stick to this and I will update each week with my weigh in results. Thank you .
Hopefully you folks can help me get this schedule done for Thursday, my first day. I appreciate your help!

Pure water is better than diet soda, but diet soda is not the evil people claim it to be. It's all a mater of degrees. Water's best, but diet soda is still better than most other things people drink.
Despite people's misinformed claims to the contrary, diet soda will not hurt you. It's mostly water, and contains no calories. Even the claimed dehydrating effect is grossly exaggerated. Worst case scenario, you get 90% of the benefit of the water in the soda instead of 100%. Under no circumstances will it cause you to be less hydrated than had you drank nothing at all.

This is gold. Everyone is different. Some will respond to lots of cardio, others will need the weight room. Some can get by losing fat while eating a lot of carbs, others absolutely will not lose the weight until they cut them out drastically. Some can tolerate diet soda just fine, others will stall their progress on it....

The best thing you can do for your diet is to read the ingredients. Be wary of the name tags or the claims a product may make. Many whole wheat breads really do not cut it as whole wheat. Check the ingredients, a lot of bread has high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) you want to avoid this. "enriched" breads and pasta you want to avoid as well. These types of simple carbohydrates have a high GI meaning they digest rapidly and raise blood sugar levels quickly, making you hungry again soonafter. Low GI (whole grains) are better for you as they keep a steadier blood sugar level and keep you full longer. That's the basics, read up on Glycemic Index to get a better understanding.
You really can not go wrong with eating fruits and vegetables. Although I read a recent article about not eating fruit at night- if you want to know more about that I can explain that a little. However, if its a choice between fruits and chips for a snack at night you know which way to go!
Almonds are great for you. Pecans have the most antioxidants of all the nuts so if you like those go for them as well.
An eggwhite omelete is an excellent idea. Throw in some veggies to make it a tastier meal. I often like to follow a 4-1 ratio of egg white to yolk. The yolk is good for you as it contains omega 6,9- but is also high in cholesterol so you do not want to have too much.
I am really against soda because of the amount of sugar. I personally feel diet sodas are worse then regular sodas due to the aspartame, which is one of the worst artificial sweetners out there.
It really takes discipline to get on a steady exercise and diet regimen but once you get going you won't stop. Good Luck
