I would expect to see some of what Yona picked up on his most recent trip to Finland presented in Rochester.

Perhaps Finnish Beaver or Jukka can chime in here.

Can we NEED a passport now to get across the border? I know that the US pushed it off but I wasn't sure if it had kicked in yet? That's a deal breaker for me...never needed a passport before, I should get one tho...just in case...

Yep! It'd be a great learning experience. Yona is a amazing coach.

You don't need a passport, just a birth certificate and calid driver's licence

It would be perfect for a less experienced goalie. It would be a great opportunity to start your game properly.

Sean has done the last couple of these. He's learned some good things, we've met some great people, and it's a vacation for me besides.

At the last Roch. camp, we did a couple days at Niagra Falls. Last year was in Ottawa, where we'd never been.

We've got coaching options (Michigan - pretty fair amount available here), and because he's still young, more camps are open to him. Still, he's making a point to attend. With several instructors, you see different styles of play, of teaching, etc. Adult goalies don't have the option of trying most camps, since they're meant for kids. This one here, Sean was 14 the 1st time, and I think the oldest guy was 44 or so . And everyone learned something and had a great weekend. What more could you ask?

Plus, most of us are more than happy (make that THRILLED) to share a room to cut costs. Just let someone know. I for one snore badly, so if you want to drink and happen to pass out to avoid the noise, then it's a win-win, eh?

And there's the opportunity to meet and discuss gear with reps, manf. - In Roch., we went to Smiths'. It was so cool to see where and how the gear is made, and Sean & Nate decided right then to get Smith gear when they stop growing. Mask people were there (Mage, I think) and it was all very interesting.

P/S

Unfortunately, the oldest guy was not as young as 44

It's a great clinic, suitable for all levels of play.

I don't think there's any age limit, minimum or maximum.

I'll vouch for the answer above -- no passport needed to DRIVE over the border this year, but you will need proof of citizenship (such as a Certified Birth Certificate -- not a regular photocopy, but the one with the governmental seal on it) and government picture ID (such as driver license or other ID card issued by gov't).

As the mother of an 8yo goalie with 1 year of experience, we'd be there in a heartbeat if the timing had worked out for us! We've taken Dom to three similar "weekend clinics" (including one when he was 7yo with 4mos experience!) that were put on by members of goalie forums and everyone has always taken the little guy in like any other member of the goalie community.

Shooters and coaches have always tailored the drills to the needs of every goalie -- size, skill, and expertise level -- so that the more experienced goalies are challenged (faster shots, more deking moves, etc.) and the less experienced goalies (including the older goalies with less experience) are still challenged but aren't blown away (slower/lighter shots, less deking).

You won't be disappointed in either the goalie training or the socializing, I promise!

PM Yona at the site - he's also Phantom29 here, but I don't know how often he checks in. As long as he's not driving himself there, it's probably fine.
