Can pads cause knee pain

I have a set of Sherwood pads that I love but it seems since I have gotten them I have noticed pain in my knees especially the right one. Is it possible that the pads are causing my knee pain? Anyone else ever switch pads because of knee pain? Thanks.

Yes.....

My bud switched brands and started having knee problems very quickly. It certainly isnt the only possible cause for your pain, but different pads offer different support and mechanics. In my buds case his pain when away shortly after returning to his old pads.......

Where's the pain coming from would be the first thing, secondly would be what was your old set up?

Things as simple as landing on a seam that wasn't there in your old set or harder landing gear is usually the biggest contributor to the problem till you figure out why and get it adjusted for yourself.

Maybe try adding another knee stack? I added one myself and it fixed a lot of problems.

The pain is on the inside of my right knee. I know this set has a harder landing pad than my Smiths. I have added a 1/2 inch foam landing pad but it has not helped. I guess I may have to try another set to see if that helps.

Pain

I used to have that problem myself then one day I discovered the problem. Can you guess what that was?

Chinese made gear is crap and buying this crap I wrecked my knees the poor workmanship and lack of consideration thereof. I bought junk from overseas.

You get what you pay for they say but these pads were expensive I returned them saying they were defective and I got my money back for another pair of some other crap from offshore Till I discovered Canadian made gear where they play hockey, miller, battram smith all wonderful and service excellence like no other.

here's a thought when you buy Chinese make sure it's "take out" and not your goalie gear

If it is inside front you might be landing on the seam for the knee blocks and bruising your soft tissue when you're being aggressive. If it is along the bottom or back I would say you could be landing on the edge of the padding. Unless you have time to think about it or do it early on like in warm ups you won't figure it out right away, I also seem to remember someone on here mentioning having to much lift or padding also causing this sort of problem.

Thanks for the tips. I checked out the landing many times and I seem to be perfect on the block. Also the pads were made in Canada not in China. Why did you think they were Chinese? I would never buy any goalie gear other than my sticks (BTW that kills me). Pads, catcher, blocker, C/A are all US or Canadian.

I am going to have to try some other pads to see if it is the pads. Right now my right one is so sore I bailed on playing tonight and that is a first for me.

Just got back from the Ortho and he said knees looks great in the Xray. There is some slight swelling. MRI next. He seems to think it could be tendonitis due to how tight my hamstrings are. He gave me some more stretching exercises and said I can continue to play. I am changing my landing block tonight as I think this may be part of the problem. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Do the new pads have sliding toes like the Smiths? If not, the knee pain could be due to stress from your toe not being able to drop lower.

I picked up a pair of C-10's too, had the hard landing as well, I had Sarah at PAW build me an extra stack, it helped. Plus I wear a pair of "soft" Bauer kneepads which help a lot.

Hope it helps.

I just got my pair of C10s as well, and found my right knee hurt a little bit after training. Unsure on why exactly, I couldn't pin point what was making it hurt so much. I'll keep an eye out for sure.

I think after looking at my pads that the landing block is a brick. I am changing out the landing block with medical foam inserts. I am hoping landing on a cushioned surface will make my knee feel better.
Good luck with yours. Mine were done for a pro goalie so they are NHL legal and I thought he would have them done so they would not abuse his body but I was wrong.
