Thanks for all the help everybody, next ice time I'm going to try to get another video of me and I'll work all the tips you've given me into my game to see what happens.

Notice the laziness of the glove hand!

( I do the same thing when I'm moving around and I'm waiting for the shot! )

Lazy? No. Just my stance. It's worked well for me for 20+ years.

Learned it from this guy:

He's a whole lot better than me, but if there was anybody who could be a body double for him in goal, it would be me....except for the fact that he's 3" taller than me!

Isn't everyone!?

I'm glad to hear my bad habit isn't necessarily that bad.

I'm in the company of greatness, and Tretiak, too.

the only thing that i have been tuahgt that is wrong with the example of a good stance given is that there are holes under your arms that you need to fill while dropping. ive been taught to keep my elbows in, that way the holes r already filled and theres no way to let a goal "through" you there

You want to keep your elbows in, but you do not want to lock them into place, you want to remain loose. Reason being that if you lock in your elbows you lose the ability to react to the puck. I didn't explain that very well sorry.

That is only relevant when dropping in a butterfly for a shot going to the body. If the shot is away from the body, what good would keeping your arms in tight be for that?

It's why I challenge the stance recommendations by one of the guys who have their own forum here. During your stance, if you're paying attention and involved in the game, no shot is going to get through you in these areas.

The stance needs to be comfortable and able to be moved in and out of to make saves either in the body or away from the body. The way to achieve this is to essentially find a medial position for everything as it cuts the distance to be traveled in any direction in half, thus easing the movement.

i keep my arms in, not locked, because when challanging, there is almost nothing to shoot at around me, and as lon as i dont make extra holes through me, i have a huge advantage. So this way, i am forcing the shooter to shoot around me, at smaller holes that he has more of a chance to miss. And its not like im not reacting am having active hands, i am, but the more the players are missing the net the more i know i am consistantly in good position and forcing them to shoot where i want them to shoot

I'd personally have to disagree with the concept that because a past great used a certain stance or style that this means it is ideal or effective in nowadays game. If that was true the game would never evolve and stand up would be the only style of play, and no one can argue that old-school stand up is more effective than the modern butterfly style?

I'm not saying that Sloth's style of play is wrong I'm a big believer in finding something that works for you, but this should generally be underpined by the basic ideas that you should occupy as much space as possible within the net and not allow goals through the body.

To say Tretiak was a 'past great' is absurd.

Do realize that he was Ed Belfour's goalie coach except the last 3-4 years of his career.

Also, guys like Brodeur have been under his stable too.

Just those two alone should quiet any talk against the man and what he teaches.

No comments on the butterfly(Although you could beat out any goalie where I live, including the backup rep. goalie).

One question though, how is it possible to be first year bantam, as it said in the video description, but be born in '93? If you were born in '93, as I was, shouldnt you be 2nd year bantam going into 1st year midget? It shouldnt differ, because we're both from BC. Or is the age-to-level ratio different?

I meant that it was my first year playing hockey and at the time I was currently at the Bantam level.

I'll be playing midget next year.

Oh, and the new video of me should be up in about 4-5 days.
