Simplest way I can put it is that a diagnosis does not provide a prognosis.

You seem hell bent on the idea that knowing what it is means you know it can't get worse. Somewhere, a doctor has an open appointment you should've filled.

Are doctors no longer "in vogue" anymore? What's wrong with seeing a doctor for a diagnosis and prognosis? You need to get your knee x-ray'd at the very least as there may be more to it then just dislocation. You may have tore something in your knee, who knows.... a doctor would know for sure though as he has the tools to make a proper diagnosis. Like it's been said, the other poster may be spot on... or not and last I checked, there were no internet x-ray capabilities with today's pc's. Hitch yourself a ride and go see a doctor already and stop calling other posters dumb asses when they are a) trying to help you and b) just telling it like it is as it looks like you need some sense talked into you.

Based upon the description I am pretty sure that my diagnosis of the event is bang on. However there is no way to know the other damage that can occur.

A dislocated knee cap can be innocuous and you can be back participating in sports in a couple weeks. Or there could have been some other damage to the joint, including damage to the actual kneecap and patella tendon, which is why I suggested that he see a Doc and get a firm diagnosis and as Leafer said, prognosis as to what his recovery time objective is.

Due to the number of moving parts and some of the stationary ones in the knee he's probably going to need an MRI to determine if there is any additional damage, and unfortunately he will have to wait for the swelling to subside to get that taken care of.

you had someone to take you to the goalie camp, but now no one will take you to the dr ? isnt dr visits free up there ? hell, the only reason people dont go to the dr here is because it costs an arm and a leg... there you damn near break an arm or a leg and you just make excuses not to go..... your telling us you honestly cant find someone to take you to the dr ??? seriously ? try again.

and as far as what hroark said... he was just being brutally honest... sloth said the same thing however he was being more pc about it. if you dont like to see peoples responses... go to the dr for medical advice... not a goalie bb online where NONE OF US ARE licenced to treat you !

Certainly sounds like it alright. I dislocated my kneecap playing out in roller hockey a few years ago after a bad fall. It's a nasty injury to pick up.

It can have different severities depending on whether or not ligaments etc surrounding the kneecap were damaged. In my case I needed light physiotherapy for about 6 months until I could walk without a limp again, despite having the kneecap itself put back in place immediately by the team doctor. So I'd definitely advise going to see a doctor. Even if it seems like it's healing ok, it's better to be safe than sorry. You don't want to end up doing more damage by walking around on it normally.

Free? Sort of.

It's not as simple as walking in and getting checked. The hospital would likely give him an ace bandage, maybe some crutches, and a ticket to a 4 month line up for an MRI. Xrays could probably get done within a week or so, but only will show bone damage and not much for soft tissue.

Seriously, this idea of "free health care" isn't what it looks like from the outside looking in.

Ice it, keep it elevated...and buy my pads for sale.

Seriously, don' t be stupid (I know it's tempting...fight it): go see a doctor. If something is damaged, it will be worse if it heals all messed up versus getting it taken care of right away.
