Just starting ice and need some help.

So I'm playing on ice for my first time ever this weekend. I don't skate regularly, never have been a strong skater, and have skated maybe 5 times in the last 5 years. I've played ball for 15 years, and roller a handful of times but never in net. How long did it take you guys to actually feel 100% comfortable out there?

not to sound like an *** but I don't think anyone can say they are 100% comfortable out there. Thats the great thing about this position, there is always something we can be learning and making better. Tweaks here and there ect...

A while. But don't let that discourage you!

Have you tried checking out local rinks that allow rec skating (or even playing with equipment) ? It might help out. Also, if you know of Livejournal, your city may have a community journal where people post, and you could ask there. (Search bar is near the top and it should already be on interests. Then you just enter <your city> and go! )

and to add to my above post, skate as much as you can, when you are a strong skater it makes the rest a lot easier.

Go to a public skate, wear your pads and pants, get used to skating with the bulk....if people look at you so what, they are just lookign cause you look cool and they don't.

But seriously practice does make perfect, skate in your gear as much as you can!
