Comeback time - but at what price?

I have finally bitten the bullet and agreed to make a comback at the senior level of inline in the state where I play. The problem is I'm not about to give up ice and have found in the past that the more I got into inline, the more my ice game suffered. Having just lost two finals in a a row on ice I'm keen to make sure this season we finish on top (saw the video of our OT loss for the first time last night and the winning goal was a five hole shocker! )

So, the question is, has anyone got any advice on how to make the most of my inline comeback (I've been out for three seasons and should know better at my age), but not have it take a toll on my ice game? All input gratefully received

I think the general concensus(sp?) on the board is that you should play one or the other, not both. I have given up roller because I want to concentrate on my ice game, plus, ice is way more fun
IMHO, one or the other

Hey Andy,

Losing to the Northstars doesn't bother me in the slightest. You guys played well and won well. How can I be upset at that? Losing the summer comp semi to the Icehawks in OT after we had the winning goal waved off for a non-existant hand pass with less than a minute to go in regulation does annoy me though.

Streethockeygaolie, thanks for that, but I've taken the plunge and have to make the two work together. I'm the oldest player in the league (inline) and figure I only have a season or two left before some youngster takes my spot. So I still need some tips on the best way to make both work together

The one thing I'm working on is trying to completely seperate the two in my mind. I just started playing ice and trying to equate the two is impossible, like baseball and softball, two different games with similar rules (quoting avatarkava).

That being said PLAY BOTH! Trust me if I can do it anyone can.

I'm not sure how much roller you played before your time away from it, but this will be a big factor in your comback. If you've played a few years before, you will be surprised how fast it all comes back to you! Your endurance on the other hand........well you use different muscles and movments in roller than you do in ice, so be ready for early fatigue.

I hadn't played goal in roller since last spring, (when we won yet another chpmpion ship! ) but I played about a month ago and did great. I really thought I was going to stink the place up, but i did very well despite not playing for almost a year. I still had been playing ice 2-3 times a week though.( while a lot of the movments are different, alot are the same, and your conditioning from ice will somewhat transfer over to roller. )

For about 2 1/2 - 3 years there I was playing both roller and ice.......and I loved it, I was probably in the best condition of my life, and was playing great. ( I am also the oldest on both of my teams......roller and ice *35* )

Keep playing both if you can, and if you love roller as much as I do, you'll have a great time!

Cool

I think you can do both. I also think it is very important to keep the two separate from each other in your mind and realize and prepare properly for each surface for what it is and what is needed.

Good ruck!!!!
