cracking ankle joint

my team mate's left ankle has been cracking almost every time she moves it, normally, that's not much of a problem usuallly, but recently, there has been more pain when she cracks it and today, it was at the point where it hurt too much to crack it. i'm thinking possible ligament damage here, or am i just being paranoid here?

an no, she has not consulted a doc about this (namely cuz she refuses to).

what do u guys think? anyone with experience with something similar?

Joints don't normally make noise when you bend them, and they're certainly not supposed to hurt. This sounds like a chronic condition to me, one that could affect her for the rest of her life -- which means she might have difficulty walking, which as she ages will sorely tax her independence. Here's my advice to your friend: See a doctor!

The best that could happen is that he discovers it's something simple and easy to deal with. Otherwise, he might find it's more serious and have her do something about it. If she doesn't see a doctor, it will probably get worse before it gets better.

How old is your freind? It's pretty normal when you're in your teens to have joints that do crack due to different parts growing at different rates. My left arm sometimes would crack incredibly loudly and hurt like hell but I eventually grew out of it. The only thing that remains is my arm still occationally will lock up but I'm hoping I'll grow out of that too. Still your freind should probably still see a doctor as there are other numerous other things that can cause the same thing to happen.

Ever cracked a hip. ouch! that is incredibly painfull.

My fingers and toes have been cracking since I was a kid. No other side effects to report so far...

My ankle, toes, wrists, and fingers crack all the time and nothing bad has happened (knock on wood). So i don't think your friend has anything to worry about.

Some joints on some people just pop all the time. However,

That should not go on too long...

Joints/tendons all normally have air in them and do normally pop or crack. Doctor has checked this with mine and says that there is nothing to worry about. It just a genetic thing that I am pre-disposed to. My father has the same thing and is in his late 60's with no problems whatsoever.

Unless you are a physician or have had a physician check it, then we shouldn't make a diagnosis for those with the ailment.

If it bothers you, see a doctor.
