New Crease/Old Crease
Does anyone else have problems getting their angles right when switching between rinks? I play mainly at 2 rinks. One has the traditional, full-semicircle old style crease, while the other has the current "ends cut off" crease.
It seems that the modern one is much easier to get my angles right sooner, than on the old style, which tends to take me well past the 2shots 2goals line.
it's a real confidence killer when you win 8-3, but they only had 4 shots.

I prefer the 'ends cut off' crease because that was what I learned to play the position with, and the rink where I practice has that type of crease. I adjusted to the semi-circle, but I prefer the boxy type crease, I don't know why. I can play equally well with either one.

I like the modern crease more too because it's easier to get my angles right. The only rink that had the modern crease here was my teams home rink but the olympics teams practiced there so they had to change the crease back to the old style. Damn international rules.

I don't have a problem switching between the two although I usually play on the old style. Only time I do have problems is when the net is also 2' further out like in the nhl but it only takes a shot or two to get used to. I don't have any problems switching between NHL, olimpic, or odd sized ice. Probably because most of the rinks I play on fit into the odd sized catagory.

althought the crease is important.. i have stoped using it as a referance point for my angles. i use a compaition of the lines in the face off circle and the boards.. i know this sound wierd but is works ...

I've only played with the old style crease a couple of times and it did throw me off a little. Mostly because I didn't notice that the crease was different until the game started. Once I realized why my angles were off it wasn't too hard to adjust.
P.S.
You youngin's make me laugh. The real old style crease was a rectangle.

Paint? Crease?
The rink I play at most often is not known for timely maintenance. They haven't repainted the lines in years. Most of the time, the only reliable way to place the net is to find the peg holes. Failing that, we have to eyeball the goal line off of the part that's painted on the boards. It's a dump, but we love it.

So they still have the rectangular crease, right? Man I hated getting used to that semi-circle.

I always play on the semi-circle crease in my league, but when we go on tournaments, I like the new-style one a lot better because I don't go off to the side too far. It's easier to position yourself.

I would kill to have any crease at all these days: the Burnaby Winter Club's paint is almost invisible and I'm constantly losing the net.

Hey 'zilla,
Same situation at 8 Rinks in Burnaby. I played my first spring league game on the 'B' side rinks a couple weeks ago. I don't think they've repainted the lines since the last time I played there 2 years ago. The refs were having trouble finding the faceoff dots to drop the puck!

I know I like the new crease better then the old one. I do find it much easer to get my angles right. When Im playing with an older crease I just have to remember that it is different and that usually helps. Once I have played long enough in a certain crease i just get uses to the angles at that rink.

Alright gr8sav, finally someone who knows where my nickname comes from.
I played on an 'A' side rink last night and there was enough paint for me to be able to tell that it was the semi-circle style crease. I'm pretty sure thats all I've played on anyways.

Okay finally played in the old crease again.... my resolution this week was to stay as deep as I could, for as long as I could, centered in the net, and move out from there only when i HAD to.
worked pretty well considering the one time i challenged too heavily, i got burned on the backdoor post pass, but still also got burned on the walk-in from the goal-line extended (shot off the back/far post).
just don't know what it is that's throwing me off...
