Poke Check

I did a search and found nothing... So Can anyone throw me a good link to a site that shows how to do the poke check in detail? Thanks in advance.

a poke check is really a judgment call .. will you beat the fwd or will he beat you .. a good poke check is indefenseable . what you have to do is get your stick blade at about 45 degrees to the ice skate to the PUCK and then throw you stick throught your hand right at the puck. the tape knot will stop the stick from falling out of your graps pull the stick back it to you and get back to the net . rember if you miss its a goal .. never fully extend the stick untill you excute the poke check..

Keek's CDR.
just incase you dont bother reading all the posts in that thread, keek's CDR may not be sent out through email because it is too big. You have to order one (which is free) and pay shipping (which is like 4 bucks)

I highly recomend getting it.

When making a poke check do you let the shaft slide through your hand towards the puck or do you quickly slide your hand up the shaft and then thrust the stick forwards with a tight grip on the shaft just below the knob? I learned the latter technique. It requires two motions (1. Hand slides up shaft 2.Stick thrusts forwards) but can be done very quickly. It seems to me that this style allows you to generate more force on the poke check than if the stick is just sliding through your hand towards the puck. This may not matter much if you get the puck, but if you miss the puck and are hoping to accidentally jam your stick into the shooter's skates (Oops, sorry guy - I was trying to get the puck) the extra force generated may make the difference between a shooter skating through the check and scoring or sliding face first through the crease into the net.

Im not saying which one is right because I honestly dont know.

Keeks teaches the thrust method where your hand is on the paddle (in the ready stance) and you literaly throw the stick at the puck, you keep your hand covering the shaft so hopefully the knob will hit your palm and stop the stick from going to center ice. Im still mastering the fine art and have accidentally lost my stick on a few occasions. For floor hockey, the poke check is my favorite weapon

i have been finding that a "butterfly position" half poke is really effective in close and in scrums around the crease, just try to get the puck as clean as you can and you should have time to get back into position before the point man gets to it.
